At what other point in history has a Scottish national team, in any mainstream sport, consistently threatened the upper echelons of any competition?

Rather than two soulless compass point teams, I would genuinely rather that pro rugby in Cymru ended. Revert to a semi-pro domestic comp with Cardiff, Llanelli, Swansea, Newport et al, while maintaining 4 beefed up, WRU-funded age-grade academies, with all the pro quality talent playing abroad.

My POV on Welsh rugby is that the writing was on the wall from the moment we bottled walking away with the northern clubs in 1895. That was the chance for rugby to become a professional, mass participation sport along working class lines. It took 130 years, but we were always doomed from that point.
