Well it looks like BLS showed the ADP numbers were junk and the American economy continues to grow. Interesting it is the public sector driving the growth, with state and local governments adding the jobs. States continue to be America’s quiet but most essential engine.

It is hard to know if the jobs report is indicative of a trend, but the gap between what was predicted and the reality is not reassuring, especially when the Fed is planning to keep interest rates steady. There is a specter haunting the USA, and that specter is stagflation.

When they set out to make their power supply 100% green, Northwest leaders ignored the fact that the region lacks the wiring to deliver new sources of renewable energy to people’s homes. Little has been done to change that, ProPublica and @opb.org found.

Seeing so many aspects of “The Resistance” cave to Trump—visiting him in Mar-a-Lago, calling on Biden pardoned him—reveals how shallow their opposition was. They opposed Trump because they thought he was weak. Now that they are convinced of his strength, they want to been seen as a loyal opposition.

The murder of the UHC CEO has exposed America’s class system. Not only does it show the rage people feel about their healthcare, but also our two systems of justice. The law is willing to do anything to find the assassin of a white collar criminal, while countless murders of poor people go unsolved.

It is important to note that after Fukuyama declared an “end to history,” with the only supposed option left a centrist neoliberalism, the world essentially dived into a pit of illiberalism, where governments around world either became hopelessly divided or ruled by brash, anti-immigrant strongmen.

As part of the reckoning with Trump’s victory, Democrats need to wrestle with this map. If Dems want a fighting chance in the future then they must face the reality that the states they control have the highest cost of living and the highest unemployment rates. You can’t win on stagnation economics.

In many ways RFK’s pseudo-science and conspiratorial mindset is like Trump’s bigotry. It is so jaw dropping and over-the-top that it is nearly impossible to criticize. It just goes to show if you have the lack of shame to go to 11, you can get away with it because few people will follow you there.

Undocumented immigrants make up ~3 of the population; trans people make up ~1; Palestinian activists on college campuses make up <~1. In the US there’s a constant culture war against vanishingly small minorities to distract from the minority that is a real threat. Namely, the extreme wealthy.

One of the noticeable impacts of the decline in religiosity in the USA is the rise of conspiracism. Compared to earlier rightwing movements, MAGA is simultaneously less fundamentalist in their Christian Nationalism when it comes to doctrine but more fundamentalist when it comes to everyday beliefs.
