Look what I found while tidying up today: my Le Franc catalog, 2nd edition. It's the first numismatic book I owned when I started collecting as a child. Good memories, checking everyone's wallet for commemorative coins.

The "Numismatic Bibliography" by E. E. Clain-Stefanelli (1985), which lists 18,000 books and articles, has been described as "by far the most comprehensive modern numismatic bibliography", which "will probably never be surpassed (at least in print form)". Challenge accepted!

I learned about an other coin with hieroglyphs in the latest Bulletin of the French Numismatic Society. It's an imitation of an Athenian owl with the hieroglyph 𓎝 (uah - wꜣḥ), probably minted in Philistia in the 4th century BC. Only 9 specimens, all from the same hoard discovered in Sicily in 1890.

Coins of the French concession of Shanghai are the subject of an article in the latest edition of "Numismatique Asiatique". It describes 2 tokens from the bar Silver Dollar on Chu Pao San road, also known as "Blood Alley", where sailors came for the bars, casinos, cabarets and brothels.
