I’ll concede whatever AI is doing counts as a legitimate tool when one of these silly agents can reach Six Sigma standards. We are nowhere near that yet.

AI isn’t just used to spy on you and make up whatever facts you’re meant to believe. It’s also used to change prices and trick you to spend as much money as possible for everything.

The UK government proposed a tech-friendly “opt out” plan for scraping data to train AI systems. An overwhelming 95% majority of the 10,000 people who responded said that was unacceptable, and copyright law should instead be strengthened to protect against unlicensed usage.

According to internal emails, Texas universities are using large language models to audit course descriptions and syllabi for traces of feminism, gender, and race. There are 2 problems: 1. LLMs are scientifically proven to fail at this. 2. This is a terrible project that nobody should be doing.

A large language model can maybe pass the bar exam, but that’s not what lawyers typically do with their time. To replace the profession, everyone would need to use ChatGPT instead of hiring a human attorney to represent them. That’s highly unlikely to ever happen as long as we’re given a choice.
