Unreal Engine Legacy Input Explained | SHMUP #04
Set up player input in Unreal Engine 5 using axis mappings, and understand input as a data source before any movement code exists. Before the ship can move, Unreal needs to know what the player is pressing. This video covers the input system on its own: creating axis mappings in Project Settings, reading those values in the pawn's Event Graph, and wiring the input to something visible so you can actually see the data working. The MoveRight axis we build here is the foundation everything else reads from. The pawn still won't move by the end, that's deliberate. Input first, movement second, because it's far easier to debug and far easier to understand when the two aren't tangled together.
