How much oxygen should we start with when resuscitating extremely preterm infants? A major new randomized clinical trial published in JAMA provides important clarity.

2025 has been a pivotal year for SurePulse. This year, our team reached several major milestones, including successfully delivering two significant grant-funded projects which involved running clinical investigations of our next-generation neonatal monitoring devices with newborn babies.

Optimal care for newborn babies in the first few ‘golden’ minutes after birth is critical to prevent significant illness or even death. A rise in heart rate is the most important indicator of effective ventilation and response to resuscitation interventions (Aziz et al, 2020).

The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) recommends covering a newborn’s head with a cap in their latest guidance.

Research highlights stark disparities in Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) in the NICU. Infants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds or families who don’t speak English receive less frequent, shorter, and lower rates of KMC than their higher-SES or English-speaking counterparts.

Is there an optimal parent position for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)? In a randomized controlled trial, researchers in Cork, Ireland compared 30° vs 60° maternal incline during KMC in very preterm infants (median GA 28+1 weeks).
