This is the 2024-25 Washington Capitals season. It didn't end how we hoped it would, but it was a hell of a run. Ups, downs, perseverance, vibes. It was fun, and I enjoyed watching all 92 games they played. Hopefully this'll remind you of some of your favorite moments.

It's just preseason, but it was a win. The Capitals beat the Bruins, 5-2, and then proceed to "win" the practice shootout after Lapierre had the only one of ten tries to go in. Any way-too-early takeaways?

It's Lapierre making it happen again (after taking a puck to the face and coming back quickly), this time assisting Ryan Chesley to his first of the preseason.

And then there's Bogdan Trineyev getting in on the action. Maybe the Caps just really don't want Michael Dipietro to make the league. Note the work Ivan Miroshnichenko puts in here. 4-1.

Milano scores, Lapierre scores. Lapierre gets two points, Milano gets two points. If this turns into a friendly game of "who wants it more," I don't think any of us would be upset.

Hendrix Lapierre keeps his eyes on the puck and gets himself in perfect position to put the Caps out in front. Another guy looking to find his way back to the big club, plays like this can only help.

Check out Sonny Milano. He hasn't really played NHL hockey for almost two years, but some things you don't lose. He wants to make this team.

It's Labor Day, and maybe more importantly, NHL hockey is back soon. I think it's about time we take a (very quick) look at the Washington Capitals' offseason moves, who's most likely to make the final 23, and what realistic expectations might look like.

The Capitals have gotten their offseason started already, signing Ryan Chesley to a big-club contract. Three years at $923,333 per year in the NHL and $82,500 in the AHL. The defenseman has played four games so far with the Hershey Bears.

Two minutes left, and Svechnikov does what's been working for Carolina: beating Logan Thompson from a sharp angle. It's 2-1 and not looking good.

MVP so far: the goalpost. It's still 1-1 after forty minutes. Much the same story as the first, with a sizable SOG disparity but close numbers for attempts. Not quite as solid a period, I don't think, and two penalties on the Caps. They gotta break through in the third.

The game is 1-1 after one. The Capitals are playing well for the most part, and look like they really want to stay alive in this series. Only four shots on goal to the Hurricanes' eight, but shot attempts are 19-18 and Washington has more high-danger chances too. Keep it going.

It's Thursday. You know what that means. Your Washington Capitals are fighting to keep their season alive. A win tonight over the Carolina Hurricanes could swing the momentum drastically. With backs against the wall and blood in the water, it's do or die from here on out.

The Caps’ Clay Stevenson recall is insurance if Charlie Lindgren isn’t able to back up tonight; he’s dealing with a personal family situation and may not be available. Logan Thompson is expected to start, no concerns there

The Washington Capitals have called up Clay Stevenson from the Hershey Bears. With Mitch Gibson still up as well, it might indicate that one of Logan Thompson or Charlie Lindgren won't be present at tonight's game.

Been banging the "put McMichael back at center" drum since they flirted with it in January. It's his natural position, he looks more comfortable there, and it should speed that line up dramatically (hopefully increasing scoring chances). A little late but I'm happy to see it.

Caps make some serious changes this morning: Frank*-Strome-Beauvillier Protas-Dubois-Wilson Mangiapane-McMichael-Leonard Duhaime-Dowd-Raddysh Sandin-Carlson Chychrun-Roy Alexeyev-TvR Frank is a placeholder for Ovechkin (maintenance). Eller looks to be coming out.

Really bad game from the Washington Capitals, as they go down 3-1 in the series to the Carolina Hurricanes. The final score is 5-2, but this game felt like maybe 7-1. Just not acceptable.

Capitals are down 2-0 to the Hurricanes. The last forty minutes of play have contained thirty-plus minutes of disasterclass from Washington. They're upset, and hopefully they're upset with the right targets: themselves.

2-0 now. With how hard goals are to come by in this series, it's going to take individual heroics to make things interesting.

Almost an unfathomably ugly power play from the Caps. Spent the final 3:36 of the period on the power play and gave up two shots on goal, recorded none of their own

The Hurricanes go into the first intermission up 1-0, and the Capitals, after having a decent start to the game, are a few seconds away from ending perhaps the worst four minute power play possible. Your goaltender should be your best PKer, but he shouldn't be the hardest PP worker.

Another shot through traffic (albeit not heavy traffic) finds its way home. Seems the easiest way to get goals on the Capitals, and Gostisbehere does it. The Hurricanes are up 1-0 with the first first-period goal of the series.

Two groups lingering on the ice at the end of the Caps’ morning skate. One is Taylor Raddysh, Dylan McIlrath, Ethan Bear and Ethen Frank. The other is Andrew Mangiapane, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Nic Dowd and Ryan Leonard. Looks like Leonard could be back in tonight for Game 4

If you want a true horror show stat, I've got one: through eight playoff games, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Lars Eller and Nic Dowd (i.e. centers on lines 2-4) have combined for ZERO non-empty net assists to forwards (Eller and PLD have one assist each on two Chychrun (D) goals; PLD and Dowd singles on ENGs)

It's Monday. You know what that means. This is a must-win game for your Washington Capitals. Down to the Carolina Hurricanes, tonight is the difference between a 3-1 deficit and being two wins from the conference finals. They're going to need to keep it in top gear for a full sixty.
