I haven’t been on here a lot lately because I’m trying to stay off the socials while I read for my minor field (military history) exam which I start on Monday. I really hope I get a job with a lot of book space because by the end of this PhD these books might end up in the kitchen… 📚🗃️😂

I’ve had this guide for years and realized just recently that it’s one of my GMU professors. I’m taking him next semester for my 20th century American History reading section, to prepare me for comps, and this line alone tells me I’m going to learn a lot. 😂😀🫡 🗃️📚

Last day was great, I went to a work in progress panel, the business meeting, presidential address and got to watch the Cubs game at a great Irish pub. My book haul is small because I had other books for my comps with me and ran out of space, I’m buying more online. #OAH25

I had to work all morning to prep for a meeting, but the afternoon panels were great. I went to a book launch party, and I’m ending my night grading with a side of wine. I’m drowning out the loud kids in the hall with Rage Against the Machine so I can finish grading exams. 😂 #OAH25

I cannot understate how appalling and helpless it feels as a Jew that this is being done under the guise of fighting antisemitism.

As an America Lit teacher, I applied for NEH grants every summer to study American History with scholars from all over the country. I studied in Washington DC and Charleston and Atlanta and Simi Valley with NEH scholarships. NEH makes good teachers better—that is why Trump dismantled the program.

I want to sincerely apologize to all my professors. This semester, as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I understand why Mrs. H would often enter class with a large pot of coffee, especially after grading papers. I genuinely hope that I can be even half as dedicated and helpful to them as she was.

This big boy is why they don’t let historians use footnotes anymore but it’s so nice to see the reference at the bottom of the page instead of having to flip to the back to look it up. 😂

Professors please pull up a chair. I’ve been talking to my classes about what has been going on. I explained indirect costs to them. I talked to them about what a probationary employee is in the government. At the end of class they asked if we could talk about it more. (1/)

This. I once took time to discuss elections with my students -- because it was their 1st election & there was no one who would talk to them about them. And yes. The job of a college professor is to explain complicated things so that students can understand them -- AND evaluate them for themselves.
