FWIW, I saw people (appropriately) fired for accidentally leaving small amounts of, realistically, "barely sensitive" classified information on military bases in Afghanistan. And nobody was surprised--they screwed up and everybody knew it.

This is such a cool project--I'm thrilled that I got to be a part of it. The big takeaway for me is that we need to do *less* research with *more* people on the team and try to do real code review and parallel analysis of our data.

Looking for examples of bad IVs for a seminar discussion. Just found a paper looking to assess the impact of socioeconomic factors on Covid-19. The paper uses WINDSPEED and AVERAGE RAINFALL 3 and 4 weeks ago to instrument for the NUMBER OF DOCTORS. It is WILD out there.

I get that a small number of high-stakes assessments has problems, and so we don't want grades based on that. But I'm getting tons of pushback now on grades being based on a large number of little, more formative exercises (from students who just won't do them). Can't win.

Higher standards for code review and reproducibility would be good for social sciences but if we want that to be the standard then we need the resources to do it and the incentives need to be aligned. 1-3 author pubs and lots of them can't be the standard for tenure.

Working on a revision and this is legitimately going to be a case of the reviewer pushing us toward a better paper. Pretty jazzed about the experiment we're adding... Doing it right, as Daft Punk would say. Even writing all my initial analysis code (on dummy data) to submit with the prereg.

There should be a feature to retroactively restart a REPLY-ALL. It'd be like the nuclear option so you only get like...one a year. Tops. Maybe biannually. But oh wow I'd love to have the option. Hey! Fun #Rstats trivia. If you stick lm() inside a function, that's fine. But if you try to pass an argument to lm() (like y~x) as a function param, it's gonna get tricky! If the arguments for lm() aren't in the data it is passed, it bypasses the function and looks in the *global* env!

Of course, all the commentators understand that jus ad bellum and jus in bello are orthogonal.
