Elliott is a bit of an enigma. You can see he is losing fur - something that often happens in cases of malnutrition. He's going through treatment for internal parasites and hopefully after that he will start gaining and regrowing his coat.

Look at Crumpet's happy little face. A squirrel with her disabilities - vision impairment and a neurological condition - wouldn't last long in the wild. Crumpet lucked out. She's got a soft warm nest, plenty of food and toys and no predators to fear.

I got all kinds of grief yesterday (over on Facebook). I was accused of "teasing" Elliott and, in their "infinite wisdom", some told me that I should just "let him go". Elliott is scared little guy. Imagine getting your face fractured and then getting picked up by a scary human.

Elliott informed me this morning that my days were numbered... Just as soon as he's had his bubba. 🍼 😁

Meet Elliott. Elliott was found on the road this morning in Claremont. Initially mistaken for dead, he may have been clipped by a car or he fell from the nest. His mom was around but he was injured enough that he needed medical intervention.

Beautiful little Crumpet taking a nap. 😴 Crumpet is not completely blind - she can't see very well but she can see if it's close to her face. She actually prefers her small cage probably because she feels secure and can see the whole cage. She plays, is active and eats well.

With a heavy heart, I am here to share that precious Peggy has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Last week she went out to The Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital at Cornell University for a thorough examination to determine what exactly was making her walk with difficulty.

I've been through this before. Claudia didn't want any formula when she first came in either. Once again, Stonyfield to the rescue! Can you tell that Crumpet likes her Stonyfield Whole Milk Vanilla Yogurt? I guess Stonyfield goes well on, I mean with, Crumpets.

I said I wasn't taking any babies. My surgery is less than two weeks away. But somehow, the stars aligned just right. I think it was with the help of a certain smiling blind squirrel that helped Danielle bring this little girl, now named Crumpet, to my door this afternoon.

People often ask me if I can touch Peekaboo. Here's your answer. ❤️ Generally porcupines aren't all touchy/feel-y for obvious reasons but they can be affectionate. Peekaboo is very independent and can be rather grumpy but he waits for me by his enclosure's door every afternoon.

Yesterday, 10 squirrels gained their freedom! Safe travels guys! Live your best lives out there! The squirrels that remain are Emmett, Brian and Grasshopper. Brian's teeth look better so there is a good chance he can go free too soon! ❤️

Introducing Grasshopper! Grasshopper was rescued as baby last year and was living happily as a pet until the landlord found out about him. After threatening to call law enforcement, Grasshopper was brought to Fourwands Wildlife.

Serious Muppet vibes. 😁❤️ Peggy appears to be responding to treatment at home so for the time being, she is staying home. At some point she may need to go for x-rays but she certainly seems to be walking better even if it's still not quite right. She is eating better as well.

Something isn't quite right with Peggy so we are making a plan to send her to Cornell for an examination. She is having some problems walking but it isn't quite clear what the root of the problem is.

The bat tent is set up and almost ready to go. I just need to tape down the floor to make sure there is no escape route. The bats will stay in the tent to practice flying and catching bugs in the air. (I have a live bug trap to help "stock" the tent with native insects.).

"HOW DARE YOU CLEAN MY CAGE !!" - Balsam. He and the other juvenile skunks have received 2 of 3 distemper shots. They will be ready for release in 3 weeks.

Temperatures are back up in the 90s (F) so I brought all their favorites - frozen ceramic tiles, frozen grapes and big blocks of ice.

I love that Peekaboo gets regular visitors from the forest. Peekaboo's enclosure is in the top left of the frame. This wild porcupine spent almost 3 full hours hanging out with him last night.

With most of the eastern half of the country breaking records with the current heat wave, I have been putting out chunks of ice for the squirrels out in the pre-release cages. It's a wonderful and cooling enrichment for them. 🧊❤️

There's our ever elusive three-legged house skunk, Justin, snagging half a fig newton that I "hid" from him to forage. ❤️ He's camera shy so I need to sneak video of him when he's not paying attention. ❤️

Orrin and Neville have been in quarantine for 30+ days and appear to be in perfect health. They have been vaccinated for rabies and have started the distemper series so they should be good to go in 6 weeks.

I had the nerve to clean Balsam's cage and he was BIG mad! (He was also vaccinated for rabies and distemper but that came after he sprayed my arm. I DO NOT smell ANYTHING like balsam!) 🫢😂

Meet Peggy! This little girl arrived from Lyme, NH after being found all alone. She's in good condition but hasn't quite mastered lapping up formula so she still requires tube feeding.

I get this excited over cheesecake. ❤️ 😁

Meet Turbo! This tiny baby bat was found on the floor in a basement in Canaan, NH. He was a bit dehydrated and had lots of mites (which is not unusual) but he appears in otherwise good health. Thank you to his rescuer for getting him down to me quickly.

Meet Orrin and Neville. These two brothers have been here for about two and a half weeks. I've been holding off on talking about them because I wasn't really clear on their fate and, well, I'm still not completely.

Jax just got a rabies shot. ❤️‍🩹 Important update to share with you, My Friends. As many of you know, in 2022, I underwent breast cancer treatment. One of the medications they put you on to prevent a recurrence, Tamoxifen, has a known side effect of endometrial cancer.

Jax doesn't want to give up the nipple. 😁. I did order some pacifiers for him but they probably won't be here until later in the week. (Yes, I'm serious. Bats like binkies.) Meanwhile, Emmett is FURIOUS that this strange little creature gets fed before him and is threatening to wean in protest. 🤣

Jax came in last night from Cornish, NH. He fell on the doorstep of a building that was in the middle of an Opera performance! There was no way to locate mom. Many states limit who can rehab bats and the last state I lived in was one of them. Sooo Jax is the very first bat that I have admitted!
