The power of community politics! More than 50 folks came together this weekend to plan ahead for ✨connection & action✨ over the next three years towards the next election. We’ve had more volunteers & donors sign up AFTER the election! Bcse hope as action & connection around a purpose, is powerful.

4. This is a win for communities organising together around the issues that matter to us, and I commend Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith for her responsiveness and advocacy across levels of government.

3. The two year extension comes with the election promise of $10 million of Commonwealth funding to support aged care respite.

2. Enormous congratulations to the Friends of Burrangiri, Independent MLA for Murrumbidgee Fiona Carrick, & Senator David Pocock, for your staunch advocacy on this issue. I was also glad to advocate for increased Commonwealth aged care funding and made a submission to the Inquiry as well.

Thrilled that the ACT government has listened and been responsive to the desperate concerns of older people and their families in our community and reversed the decision to close Burrangiri before alternative aged care respite was in place.

6. I know that integrity in politics is important to many of you, & if I do make it across the line with this final counting, truth in political advertising & donations reporting reform will be squarely on the agenda.

5. When the Labor Party has increased their majority at this election, the role of the cross bench in holding the major parties to account becomes even more important.

4. While the AEC will make a finding on the legality, I think we can all agree these kinds of tactics do not pass the pub test, & degrade trust in politics. This kind of behaviour is exactly why people are turning away from the major parties & towards candidates whose integrity they can trust in.

3. I have reported this to the AEC as a potential breach of the Electoral Act regarding misleading or deceptive publications, & I believe the Greens Party is too.

2. This directly contradicted the actual Greens Party HTV card, which recommended giving 2nd pref to me as the Independent candidate for Bean.

Integrity counts. On election day, Labor handed out potentially misleading HTV cards at some polling stations across Bean. The cards were the distinctive Greens Party green, rather than Labor Party red, & advised Greens voters to put Labor 2nd in their preferences.

Quick update – counting is on pause for us today while they count Senate preferences and then come back to us tomorrow. It’s very, very close! I hope we get across the line, but even if we fall just short we have done such a special thing here together and we have well & truly put Bean on the map!

We did it – we’ve made Bean a force to be reckoned with!! We’ll see the final numbers over the next few days, but however they go, we have built something powerful & purposeful & positive together here in Bean. I could not be more proud & more grateful for what we’ve achieved together. Go Bean! 🧡

So special to be visiting with everyone at polling booths around Bean this morning - at Gordon and onto Theodore next! So incredibly proud and grateful for what we’ve built together, towards our own strong Independent alternative for our community. It needs doing and we’re doing it!

It’s been such a privilege to meet with so many people and organisations doing incredible work here in our town, and to get to stop and chat with people at prepolls about any questions you have or things you’d like me to know about. It’s feeling very positive!

Mr Dutton fails to understand that we are an integrated community here in Canberra. Cuts to the public service at this scale would also decimate businesses here in Bean that are already struggling with the cost of living crisis. I am for our whole community.

Connecting with community, including on social media, is central to me & my campaign. We won’t agree on everything, & you can disagree with me and others in the comments, but you must remain respectful and courteous. Social media should be a safe place to engage and express and explore our views.

Burrangiri Aged Care Respite Centre in Rivett enables families to continue to care for loved ones at home, & is deeply appreciated. I am calling on the Federal govt to resource Burrangiri & enable ACT govt to delay this decision until an equivalent alternative is operational.

Letterboxing, stalls, door knocks, doing life in an orange JP t-shirt, putting corflutes together, hammering in corflutes, making doggie scarves, organising events, coming together and going off to let folks know in all the ways that we have another option this election other than the major parties.

Last Friday night campaign jam before pre polls open on Tuesday! So, so much effort by a beautiful, brilliant and still growing bunch of committed people, to get to this point. What a total honour to be part of this together. Let’s go get this!
