A fascinating exploration of the National Cycle Network (NCN). Laura Laker's book is about cycling parts of the Network to discover how it all started, how it is funded and why some parts of the route are frankly terrible. Here's my book review:

The Scottish Deer Centre is home to 12 species of deer, a wolf pack, wildcats, otters and European brown bears. There's also a bird‑of‑prey centre. A great destination for children with plenty of play areas. You can get to it by cycling 3.7 miles from the nearest station, Ladybank:

Safety and space at risk as SUVs reach 30% of car market in English cities, researchers warn
Campaigners call for Paris-style parking charges amid fears big vehicles are taking up excessive public space The number of giant cars in England’s cities has increased tenfold in recent years, according to researchers, who warn the vehicles are taking up excessive public space and posing a threat to public safety. Analysis published by Clean Cities has found SUVs have gone from 3% to 30% of existing cars in the past two decades. In London, the number of SUVs has increased from about 80,000 in 2002 to about 800,000 in 2023. Continue reading...

Edinburgh’s cycle hire scheme is set to launch in August despite delay concerns
Edinburgh’s cycle hire scheme is still set for a ‘soft launch’ in August, despite concerns that it would be delayed and with no operator yet in place. A small number of dockless electric hire bikes are expected to be on city streets by the week of August 18, with the scheme expanding from there. The city’s transport boss has said the scheme will be implemented ‘diligently’, and in a way that fits the Capital’s ‘specific needs’.
