FYI by “all” I mean the sternness. Not all the men. A lot of the men from that generation I’ve found similar but always there are exceptions. My Oma left my opa for a man named Hans and he was pure loving gentleness.

“Amongst Women” by John McGahern was not for me, but I also have to give him the accurate portrayal of men of that generation who were all stern, obsessively controlling & violent either in words or physically, but somehow also had bouts of kindness to them. I’m nervous. Finally I was assigned a family doctor after 3.5 years of being on a waiting list. I really hope he takes my health issues seriously. So far doctors only have “the pill” and “lose weight” as solutions for my health 🙄 fingers crossed 🤞 this one isn’t sexist

I have to share it’s too amazing. 🤩 I got “roller blade” style wheels for my work desk chair. The plastic crap that came with the chair kept breaking. And I needed a rug to prevent scratching the floor. These new wheel are a life changer! And no scratches. Just smooooth

Sorry guys. I just… a lot of frustration these past months

6/10 despite the apocalypse being interesting in its imagining, the story of the characters is meh 🫤 maybe I need to sit with this one longer but I was underwhelmed. The women are portrayed are meek and weak waifs. I didn’t vibe with it at all

Naming family feud: 1/2 Grand uncle Gerard: named after his mother after a massive family argument because the first born son should be named after the grandfather or father. They named him after his mother to spite them. My grandpa: named after Rudolf Valentino to piss off the family even more.

A surprising read. I was expecting a cyber-horror-thriller but then was surprised with how much slice-of-life this was, all wrapped up in the horrors of real life in the face of a world dominated by AI and ads. I’d also say this book is a love letter to mothers who fear not being a perfect parent
