#Coverdancers are basically dancing/moving advertisments for the original idol(s). They act as a body that portrays and attracts viewers to Korea. A cover dancer has the job of trying to display korea in an attractive light and highlight the dance, song and k-pop culture.

Western audiences constantly read Asian masculinity through their own #stereotypes. Two Korean men being affectionate or physically close becomes “they must be dating,” when in Korea, skinship between male friends is completely normal. Its just a different culture not hidden romance.

The #malegaze in K-pop isn’t just about outfits, it’s about camera work too. The way female idols are filmed (angles, zooms, body-focused shots) often frames them for a presumed male audience, even when the concept is “empowering.” It makes you question who the performance is really for.

As fans and as a society, we underestimate how much pressure idols are under. They’re constantly being watched, judged, and managed by their companies, and then when something goes wrong, the public piles on even more. At some point it stops being “accountability” and just becomes #overwhelming.

Tablo’s tweet highlights how confusing #copyright in music can be. Even if an artist writes and performs a song, it doesn’t mean they have full control over how it’s used or shared.

I think it’s interesting how K-pop was first dismissed in the West as “manufactured” or a copycat industry. We saw the same with #Sony, once ridiculed, then later dominating global markets. K-pop feels like it’s following that exact trajectory.

Reading Kim Seon-joo’s reflection on the “C’est si bon” era reminded me that what is remembered by some as nostalgic and beautiful, can be deeply painful for others.

The Korean Kittens were a girl group in the 1960's, led by Yoon Bok-hee. She was very popular, singing/performer for the American soilders-travelling from army base to army base.

So, even in the 1930s, Korean music was still incorporating different languages such as, japanese and english and we could clearly see influences from the west. It was never really "Pure Korean Music"

I think celebs being Policed online by members of the public is unreasonable. I think people take it to seriously… the public demands #nationalism, they want these celebs to know all about Korean history and Korean politics and never make mistakes
