Topster of my First Listens & Revisits of May!!! Begun my dives into the discographies of Cocteau Twins, Squarepusher, Autechre, and Orchid this month! Quite a few fantastic albums that dropped this month as well :D Underwhelming albums at bottom middle…

The extent to which this album has grown on me is insane Went from moderately underwhelming to an easy contender for one of my favorite albums this decade so far. Easily my AOTY atm they absolutely smashed it with this

Forgot to post about this last night but this a wild album. Some of the loudest hardcore punk I’ve heard with a lot of insanely catchy elements. Very short but packs in more punch than you could imagine. Really enjoyed it :D

Honestly insane music week just off these 3 albums alone. We got spoiled...

Honestly a beautiful record, very much lived up to the hype behind it. Love the heavy focus on religion throughout, with all of the voice clips and even song titles referring to certain religious ideologies as well as nods to time and the lack thereof. There’s… [1/3]

Very different from Feed Me Weird Things and Hard Normal Daddy in that it’s so much more chaotic and unpredictable, with a lot of break-core elements being present. Not my favorite Squarepusher record but definitely yet another very solid and enjoyable one :)

Easily my least favorite JPEGMAFIA album yet… Granted it isn’t a terrible record, as the production on a lot of the cuts here is at least pretty good albeit maybe a bit repetitive for Peggy’s usual standards, but so much of this album feels so incredibly one note and… [1/3]

Real good :) Pretty much on par with, maybe ever so slightly weaker than, Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow! but still very much enjoyed it. Pure chaos, impassioned screamo vocals, solid performances. A short but fulfilling listen!

They did it again!!!! Even more noisy than their last one and still filled with some incredible riffs and fantastic production! Definitely on the short side at just 25 mins and some songs that could maybe be fleshed out a tad more, but even despite that I loved this!!! :D

Pretty great! I think Tri Repetae offered a more consistently interesting sound, but the more Incunabula goes on the better it gets. Amber is next! :D

Another solid Cocteau Twins album! Maybe doesn’t leave as much impact as Heaven or Las Vegas and Four-Calendar Café but I think it’s a respectable way to close out the band’s career, with some pretty great songs and the usual ethereal soundscapes :)

Last Disc Done! Pretty fun record overall! I wouldn’t say it blew me away necessarily but I was quite surprised by how tightly written and consistent it is from start to finish. Each disc has its own set of qualities that set themselves apart from each other while still [1/2]

Second Disc Done Even better than the first! A lot more synth-pop inspired tracks on this side and I feel like a bit more consistent in terms of catchy tunes. Fun album so far :)

First Disc Done Pretty sweet album, I think the sheer variety of influences and genres is pretty interesting and always makes for a neat little surprise when going between tracks. Some that maybe paled in comparison to others but overall a fun start :)

Pretty good! Not the most groundbreaking emo and post-hardcore record I’ve heard but very solid and engaging overall. The vocals can feel a little too wimpy, for lack of a better word, at some points but not for the majority of the album. Enjoyed it :)

Admittedly it has taken me FAR too long to tap in to BROCKHAMPTON, but I’m glad to say I had a pretty great time with the first SATURATION :D I’ll be getting to the other 2 soon, but I love their energy, production is fantastic, and their writing is both emotional and catchy :)

Ended up enjoying this a LOT more than I expected! Very brief record but still packs enough punch to make the 15 minutes worthwhile. Crazy energy and pretty fantastic recordings. Excited to listen to Chaos Is Me soon! :D

Saw By Storm in Philly and got the tour exclusive vinyl for their new album, which at the moment is still my AOTY :)

Pretty fuckin great Post-Punk and Art Punk record! The extended/reissue cuts sound just as good as the original material and it all comes together to form a super consistent punk record with some hints of what would later be the rise of post-hardcore. Loved it!! :D

Was looking for this for a while, glad I found it today!!! :D

Really solid! Not the blowout I was expecting given how fucking fantastic the singles have been for this, as some tracks do feel substantially more predictable than others, but it’s got VERY high highs and only makes me even more excited for future releases. Give it a shot!!

Fantastic Neo-Soul and Hip-Hop record, one that I’d been putting off for far too long and is very much worth checking out. Lacks some of the more experimental aspects of The Roots’ stuff that I love so much but you can’t deny the impactful grooves and consistency. Great stuff :D

Definitely a lot heavier of an album in comparison with Happy Songs for Happy People and it’s quite entertaining for that alone. I will say that some of its arrangements can feel a little by the numbers by Mogwai’s usual post-rock standards, but it’s still very solid overall :)

Another stunning Cocteau Twins album. Gotta say I’ve been loving my time revisiting the albums I’d already heard from them and appreciating each of them so much more now. Finally getting into more of their discography seems like it’s gonna be a real treat! Milk & Kisses next!

Excellent record, loved it at least just as much as 2020 and all of the recordings sounds incredible. I love how its songs call back to a much earlier time period in comparison with 2020, while still feeling potent in today’s world. Loved this a lot! :D

Really fun album! Love the unmistakable early 2000’s loud rock and noise rock sound on this. Vocals remind me a bit of QOTSA and other hard rock bands of that era, which, to me at least, is very much to its benefit. Can’t believe I haven’t heard this before, loved it!

New Little Simz EP was just ok for me unfortunately. Some really cool switch-ups in sound that are pretty exciting in concept from the rage-inspired intro, the southern 808’s on “Game On”, and the club beat on “Open Arms”, but altogether I feel like they don’t add up to [1/2]

The Lemon Twigs have once again crafted a fantastic record :) They haven’t really switched up their sound much over the course of their past few but the consistency in their songwriting has prevented from getting even a little bit stale for me. Had a great time with this!

This was great! I think I actually enjoy it slightly more than Hard Normal Daddy. Some of its instrumentals have a lot more punch and impact, and I love a lot of the jazzy elements on this one about as much as or even more than the ones on HND. Fantastic album! :D

Gave this another shot finally, originally I felt like this was just an alright project from Cocteau Twins, but I see a lot more merit in it now. I think I had expected this to be more similar to Heaven or Las Vegas than it was given the fact that it was my only [1/2]

I feel like the more wild aspects of Emergency & I that I love so much just aren’t really here and it does lessen the experience for me a bit. That said I still think this is a very solid record overall, something I’d come back to if I was looking for some nice indie-rock and emo

Real nice. Don’t know if it’s gonna leave much of a long-term impact on me but it’s a really solid hip-hop and Neo-soul album with some great production that reminds me a lot of that last NxWorries album I really liked. Definitely worth checking out :)

Finally tapping into Autechre! Really enjoyed this album, very different from a lot of the other IDM acts of the 90’s, filled with very cerebral electronic beats with only small additions over the course of these 5-9 minute tracks. Excited to dive deeper into their discography :)

This was honestly even better than I was expecting. I like how this flows a good bit better than That! Feels Good! and some of its best moments rival the highs of What’s Your Pleasure?, which I still prefer overall but this is a great 2nd for me. Really enjoyed it! :D

I was pretty excited for this because the one single I heard from this sounded sick. Definitely did not disappoint! Really sick blend of noise rock, digital hardcore, and industrial hip-hop with a pretty great tracklist even if it’s only 31 minutes. One of my favs this year! :D

Kicking off the month right with my introduction to this UK punk classic, loved it! Pretty hefty guitars and really tight tracks, several being under a minute in length but still quite fun and impactful. Glad I finally checked it out :)

Topster of my First Listens for April!!! Overall fantastic month, as it’s the first of this year where I haven’t heard anything that disappointed me all that much. Getting into more Sonic Youth as well :)

With time and some recent relistens of this I think my issue initially lied more with the noticeably cheaper recordings than later projects, which I’d be lying if I said didn’t bring it down slightly for me still However, after having more exposure to albums recorded in [1/2]

FINALLY found Red Medicine in Phoenixville I’ve been looking for MONTHS (also End Hits :D)

Anyone got any good Reggae album recommendations?

One of the more experimental records that I’ve checked out from this era and I honestly thought it was super interesting. Any catchy grooves are few and far between (not inexistent mind you) but its choice in sounds and sheer variety is very intriguing. Cool album! :D

Pretty great Jazz-Rock album. Very relaxing and psychedelic listening experience too. Starts off with a somewhat ambient sound and then progresses into light but tightly executed grooves from that point forward. Enjoyed it :)

Really interesting album. Pretty great mix between jazz, hip-hop, and sound collage/ambient music. Guest performances all add an interesting touch to the project as well. Enjoyed it :)

Weird album, but I think a good one overall :) Some of guitars sound so sharp and thin, something I think works but is just a sound I am not used to at all, songs aren’t nearly as fleshed out as the ones on Spiderland either, but again somehow it kinda works.

If humanity has to send one piece of music out to space in the hopes that extraterrestrial life will one day get to experience it and learn about who we are… My vote’s on this masterpiece every single time.
