Eureka has lots! The most noticeable is the scar that splits his face--it's highly visible, but doesn't bother him. Other, smaller injuries actually cause him more daily discomfort. In the second Stellar Eclipse book, Dark Lightning, he's shown taking medicine to help manage his chronic pain.

The woman who pushes back here is He'esh's daughter in law, grand priestess of another clan, who married his eldest son.

For Mori it changes with the seasons! He's a bird dude, so half the year his libido is so low it may as well not exist, and the other half of the year He's growing breeding plumage and his hormones and instincts make him so horny. His wife has a more normal libido, cuz she's not a bird person.

Mori nearly died in the wake of a hurricane as a small child. So even years later in his early 30s, stormy weather puts him on edge. If it's particularly bad, he retreats to a little safe room in his house so he can wait out the storm and not be totally overwhelmed by a panic attack.

Of my main trio, K'arik is the strongest and Mori is seemingly the weakest. But Evarin's the one with the moat versatile skills. Magic use is hard to measure for strength, since it's not typically used in destructive ways. "Strength" here is more a test of endurance.

Magic history is a required part of studies for any magic related major in universities. Since ancient languages and ancestry tend to be an important part of how magic is used, professional magic users have to learn the history. Whether or not they remember all of it is a personal matter lol

As all my OCs are non-human, they also all have some odd anatomy lol. I think the one that throws people off the most is giving my elves weird monkey butt pads. My gnomes and orcs have cloven hoof hands, those double thumbs can be a real trick to draw!

I have multiple m/f couples where the woman is a tough cookie who can keep her cool in Situations, and the man is a squishy emotional fella who adores her beyond words. I also love "energetic bright eyed weirdo" paired with "keeps a formal public facade but is a freak on the inside" types.

Evarin absolutely must be a medical professional of some kind. Or at least a very skilled healer. Must also always be trans, even in a gender bend. Mori has to have some weird connections. Supernatural whenever possible. Also childhood trauma that gives him DID. And he must love Evarin soooooo much.

It's important to me, because that's a whole interesting part of who they are and how they interact with people. I also really enjoy writing romance, so it's often necessary to their character arcs anyway lol

Evarin was trained in both formal schooling and with traditional mentors/through an apprenticeship. Vocal magic is as much about medical know-how as it is about sacred traditions, so most singers will seek both forms of training. For Evarin, this also gave her better fluency in the ancient tongue.

While the majority of people can use magic, only a fee of my characters have trained in it to a professional level. K'arik and Evarin are very skilled at it, and they're MCs. For side characters, there's also Kaen, Obeli Moruga, and several medical singers Evarin works with.

Due to every people being a different species, and the fact that orcs evolved as the natural predators of centaurs, there are so many laws in place to prevent interspecies flesh consumption on any level. The black market for "exotic meat" has been a disaster to wrangle and abolish.

Just about everyone knows how to write a heat rune to light a fire. Vocal magic began as motherly lullabies to comfort sick and injured children. Using runes for indoor lighting and heated plumbing was a big deal, but now it's so mundane people hardly think about it.

Nudity is normal in interspecies public bathhouses, orcish mud spas, and quetzalin preening lounges. And there are people species for whom nudity or partial nudity is very normal in public. Others are more strict about it, but at least toplessness is gender neutral everywhere lol

Magic is used in healing, architecture, religion, engineering, and other sciences. It is as much a part of their lives as electricity is part of a modern city. And like electricity, it can hurt and even kill when used incorrectly. But used well, it has and continues to improve quality of life.

Professional magic is well regulated, with licensing and required training and the like. Forbidden magic is hard to catch when people experiment in private, so there is a reliance on some civilian reporting. Official experiments are done by mage guilds to test new techniques.
