Listened to Cardiacs' LSD album and the songwriting is great, though I'm still to be convinced by the mixing. I don't know enough to know why, but the songs sound like they're designed to be played big and sprawling, and the mix frequently feels too small and compressed to me.

Whenever doing long journeys, I'll always prefer train to car. Yesterday, I went to Bristol and back. Ended up driving - £30 on petrol, £17 parking, two hours each way. This was still preferable to the train which would've cost me £160, required several changes, and taken an hour longer.

#ALL50RTS 49. Heart Factory - Sleater-Kinney (from 'Dig Me Out', 1997) The first time I heard this, while marathoning the Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums of All Time, I didn't get why these guys were so beloved. A few years and a lot of relistens later, yeah, I get it now.

#ALL50RTS 48. Breed - Nirvana (from 'Nevermind', 1991) One of those where my opinions aren't really that deep - it just rocks enough to get into my Top 50.

#ALL50RTS 47. Intrinsic Grey - Evans the Death (from 'Expect Delays', 2015) An indie rock band with an amazing female vocalist, a miserable view of being young in the 2010s, and a noisy sound that was always on the verge of falling apart. I wanted to grow old with them; shame they never made it.

#ALL50RTS 46. stupid horse - 100 gecs (from '1000 gecs', 2019) Some of the finest early hyperpop - a dense techno/ska/rock hybrid about stealing a horse that's being played slightly too fast. Helps my theory that some of the most experimental music out there is disproportionately about horses.
