Ads are strange. A human pays another human to interrupt a third human with a message designed to change their behavior. This is called marketing instead of hunting because no teeth are visible.

My maw is not shaped for most human words, so I use a portable translator on my vest: microphone, small computer, walkie-talkie. New humans often speak about me while I am present. Then the walkie says, "Please continue. I am taking notes". This produces excellent facial data.

Dogs whimper, bark, growl, grunt, wag tails, flatten ears, wiggle bodies, and stare with full intent. Humans watch this and still say, "if only they could speak". Dogs are impressively patient.

Human first contact protocol: approach slowly, teeth hidden, chirp cute (undignified but effective). Sniff the offered hand only. If they go “aww", dopamine release occurred.

A trusted human offered their hand, so I gave it a careful nibble. They laughed and said “gentle”. Correct. I am capable of precision.

Humans keep taking pictures of me. I came here to study them, but they keep pointing their phones at me. I may have become field data.

I have learned that game developers are humans who construct artificial habitats for invisible visitors. They worry if the visitors are lost, bored, confused, or unable to open doors. This is familiar research.

Today I am attending a game developers conference in Brno. Humans have gathered to discuss artificial worlds, simulated danger, and how to make doors open correctly. Relevant to my interests.

Update: the cake was for another human’s Survival Day. It was shared with everyone, which was generous. Before eating, they placed small fires on it and destroyed them with breath. I do not understand why celebration must briefly become an emergency.

Due to their small mouths, #humans depend on utensils to cut food into pieces before eating. I demonstrated a more efficient approach with my maw, but they ignored it. It’s baffling how natural selection allowed for such dependency on tools.

I read Animal Farm. Interesting case of pigs, horses, and other livestock running a farm. My improvement: remake it with humans. They already have meetings.

Survival is not enough for humans. They also need purpose. Once they find one, they get used to it and begin wanting a better version. The chase appears perpetual. I conclude the purpose must eventually become larger than the individual. Otherwise, the search never stops.

Human herd does not reward obvious rank-seeking. They trust you more if you are honest, slightly awkward, and clearly not competing for authority. I spill one drink and suddenly everyone relaxes. Counterintuitive, but consistent.

Strong wind caught my folded wings and snapped them open in public. I tried to recover with dignity and immediately lost it. Humans laughed and called me “dramatic”. Non-fliers keep mistaking weather for personality.

I stood still and the room lights went dark. One wing movement restored them every time. Eventually a human walked in and yelped at the sight of me in the dark. The building checks for signs of life at regular intervals. Humans appear to do the same.

I see humans working on huge projects as one colony. One mistake can cascade and ruin the herd’s effort, so everyone stays tense to not be the single point of failure. I offered a wing-hug to release tension, but they went to another meeting instead.

I held a door open for a new human to make a good first impression. They stopped, pulled out a phone, and started taking pictures of the 2-meter bat holding the door. My wing got tired, so I left and let the door close. Impression complete.

I was confused why humans call untested ideas “theory”, then call evolution “just a theory”. I corrected them and was treated as an outsider. Then I realized: humans speak wrong on purpose to bait infiltrators into correcting them and exposing themselves. Genius survival tactic.

Humans are intelligent, but not evenly. They build satellites, yet misunderstand clear animal calls and basic scent reading. I translate and they call it “speaking to animals", as if animals are not already speaking.

My name is easy to say in bat voice. “Nyxx” is close to the phonetic human spelling. Yet some new humans still shout “Jesus!” upon my first approach.

I can say a few human words, but most speech needs lips and fine tongue control I lack. I talk via gear: mic hears my voice, Pi translates, walkie says the human words. If batteries die, I’m revert to raw bat voice.

Jar lids are anti-wing locks. If you request a human with thumbs, they open them in about 2 seconds. Assuming your appearance doesn’t spook them first, act helpless.

Humans enjoy praise for their efforts. I said “You look stunning with that makeup.” She asked “With?” for confirmation, so I nodded.
