On hot days, owls use gular fluttering to stay cool because they can’t sweat. This involves opening the mouth and wiggling the muscles in their throat to dissipate heat. This owl was also getting a face full of wind. Rough day, I get it.

Re-visiting some data I captured in 2022. I lost some individual frames that night due to a temperature swing that knocked the focus on my telescope. Plus, it was the middle of summer, so very little time in the night. Still, I love the colours of the Trifid.
