You seem different. I fear you might differ in ways that will hurt or upset me. So I act distrustfully towards you. I find others who agree and our fear and hatred spiral together. This is a cause of racism, misogyny and more. When you also think and act similarly, it can become a perpetual feud.

Positive thinking is often treated as some kind of magical manifesting, automatically making success. Or desperately trying to avoid the paralyzingly cold clutches of the fear of failure. It is perhaps better as a cheerful outlook that leads to intrinsic motivation and more likely success.
