Hilcorp is one of the most dangerous methane polluters in the U.S. — and now they’re off the hook. When Congress eliminated the methane emissions fee earlier this summer, it removed a critical tool meant to hold underperforming oil and gas companies accountable.

🚨 Methane pollution so massive, it was visible from space. On May 27, 2025, Hilcorp’s San Juan Gas Plant in Bloomfield, New Mexico was caught red-handed by satellite — spewing methane into the air at 462 kilograms per hour.

Congress handed the worst methane polluters in the country a billion-dollar bailout. With the methane waste fee now eliminated, just 10 oil & gas companies will pocket over half of the $1B in lost revenue. The climate cost? The equivalent of 14 coal power plants a year. Read the full breakdown:
