Public health challenges doesn't exist in isolation. At SCDI, we’ve seen how community wellbeing is tied to the ecosystems around us. When environmental health is compromised, those already vulnerable face the most severe consequences.

🤝Yesterday, SCDI and partners across Asia-Pacific gathered at the “Mapping Community-Led One Health Interventions for Prevention” event, organized by @apcaso.bsky.social and @cirad.bsky.social in Bangkok, to exchange insights and strengthen collaboration around community-led disease prevention.

Ahead of #WorldTBDay2026, CSET members in Nghe An (Vietnam) brought communities together through skits, games, and storytelling, turning TB communication into something relatable, engaging, and grounded in real experiences.

🚀 #ASEACA project kick-off in Hanoi! SCDI is one of the implementing partners of the project in Vietnam, contributing to efforts that strengthen global health through the #OneHealth approach.

Recently, SCDI welcomed experts from @anrs-mie.bsky.social to Hai Phong, bringing together HPMU and local community-based organizations. The exchange focused on the DRIVE and DRIVE-TB studies and the role of community groups in reaching and supporting vulnerable populations.

Recently, we welcomed a group of dengue specialists to our office for a consultation on community-based dengue prevention. The meeting was an opportunity to introduce the DENGAGE project in Dak Lak and highlight the role communities play in both research and prevention efforts.

On 10–11 March, SCDI participated in the Scientific Days of the ANRS MIE Partner Site in Vietnam at Hanoi Medical University, where we shared insights from the DENGAGE project currently being implemented in Dak Lak province.

Recently, along with the Pierre Nicole Center and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, we organized a 3-day training for psychiatrists from 6 provinces in Vietnam.

🎉On March 10, Dr. Khuat Thi Hai Oanh, Executive Director of SCDI, was awarded the National Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite), rank of Knight, by the French Republic at a ceremony hosted by the Embassy of France in Hanoi.

🌟Highlights of February 🌟 After Tet, our teams are back and ready for the months ahead with renewed energy. From meaningful activities with children in the Breaking the Cycle program to new collaborations for #MaternalAndChildHealth, February brought many exciting moments.

Community-led efforts are vital in the fight against TB. 🌿 Recently, SCDI met with community groups in Hanoi to exchange lessons from local outreach, counselling, referrals, and treatment support for people affected by tuberculosis.

Last week, we joined our partners - @apcaso.bsky.social, KHANA Cambodia, and SWING Thailand - in Hoi An (Vietnam) for the REGENERATE Midterm Evaluation Workshop. Discussion focused on reviewing preliminary REGENERATE midterm findings, validating key results, and sharing stories of change.

On Feb 27 in Hanoi, SCDI and the Loving Touch Foundation signed an MoU, marking a new step in our shared commitment to community health. Together, we will implement activities in Nghe An province of Vietnam, focusing on support for children's first 1000 days of life.

☂ In Viet Nam, progress toward #UHC is largely driven by expanding health insurance coverage. It helps reduce out-of-pocket costs and supports more regular care. But in practice, having health insurance cards alone is often not enough, especially for vulnerable populations.

Tet has arrived a little warmer for the children in SCDI’s Breaking the Cycle programme in Hanoi 🎁✨ 53 Tet Shoeboxes from BVIS Hanoi reached the children just in time for Tet, bringing joy and festive moments to them and their families.

According to the World Bank, the most effective path out of poverty in Viet Nam is enabling young people to enter the formal labour market with stable incomes. This requires strong foundations from childhood: health, education, life skills, and social readiness.

🐘 THE STORY OF “HARMONY” In Chiang Mai, elephants are known for their strength. Not because of size, but because they move together. Slowly. Attentively. Adjusting their pace so no one is left behind. This spirit mirrors how SCDI grows communities and teams.

Dengue fever remains a significant public health challenge in Viet Nam, with over 100,000 cases reported annually. Beyond pressure on health systems, the disease continues to disrupt livelihoods through healthcare costs, lost income, and prolonged absence from work and school.

Viet Nam’s HIV response has made real progress. 96% of people on treatment have suppressed viral load. But the epidemic is shifting, with sexual transmission rising and a heavier burden in southern provinces. Treatment alone is no longer enough.

SCDI turns 16 🌱 In Chiang Mai, our team came together to reflect on 2025, reconnect as people, and align for the road ahead. 16 years, many voices, shared values, and steady commitment. Grateful to keep walking this journey together ✨

#TB is still affecting people’s health and livelihoods, especially in communities facing barriers to care. Ending TB by 2035 is not just about medicine, but about approaches that actually fit people’s everyday realities 🤝

🧠#Mental_health-related challenges remain widespread in Viet Nam, but access to care is still limited. For vulnerable communities SCDI works with, barriers like stigma, fear of judgment, and lack of information often make seeking support even harder.
