Started playing with format for a new short story. Kind of a fun exercise in finding alternative ways to invoke fear.

Adolescence on Netflix. It’s probably one of the most emotionally devastating pieces of TV in recent memory. It’s honestly perfect: one of those rare achievements where everything works so well you forget you’re watching tv. It’s a masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Andrew Tate really is one of the most deeply insecure men to have walked this earth. I’d pity him is he wasn’t, you know, a giant asshole.

So, just finished The Laws of the Skies. What a truly, deeply nasty and upsetting book. It has an ending that is one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever read. Literally made me feel dizzy.

Watching the USA right now is like saying I told you so, but without the smugness, just endless disappointment.

After DNFing two pretty risible thrillers (Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce and Runaway by Peter May, if you’re curious), I figured it was time to give this big o’bastard a go.

I love hard rock and heavy metal. Love it I tell you! And what song has been stuck in my head most of the week? Pink Pony Club by Chappel Roan. And you know what? It’s awesome.

Watched I Saw the TV Glow yesterday. Rarely has a film made me feel so profoundly uncomfortable without being objectively scary. It wears its Lynchian inspirations on its sleeve and uses liminal spaces better than anything I’ve seen. It’s an excellent movie and now my favourite movie of last year.

America, you have genuinely become a facist country. The reason why Europeans are comparing Trump to Hitler is because this last week is EXACTLY what Hitler did when he came to power. It’ll get worse. Guaranteed.

I know many people will cite Twin Peaks or Mullholland Drive as their favourite Lynch, but I really love Lost Highway. Few films have ever made me feel THAT uncomfortable. It’s such an underrated gem.

RIP David Lynch. Few filmmakers have captured nightmares so authentically than him. A damn shame.
