As @jvl.bsky.social pointed out, Harris ran a smart campaign. She was a solid candidate. Trump ran a disastrous campaign and is in clear decline. This was a clear choice. No matter who wins, half of voters either chose bigotry and authoritarianism, or had no problem with it. And that’s hard to take.

I’ve gone through all the emotions tonight, but after refreshing results again… there’s a lot of votes yet to be counted. It’s far from over. Time to relax, turn off the feed and wind down.

Our school district made today a teacher work day (kids have no school) and I have to say I’m really grateful. I may have tied one on last night after the kids tricked and treated. Jell-O shots were involved, as were late night mezcal shots (not my idea but I didn’t say no!).

I’ve spent a *lot* of time in western North Carolina in the past two years. Several weeks working in Asheville, Hendersonville, Boone, Banner Elk, Cashiers, Highlands, etc. I’m horrified by the current situation there and wishing I could do more than just write a check.

Apple’s new button on the side of the phone is perfectly positioned for me to hit it when casually picking up the phone. On a related note I have a bunch of photos of tables and floors on my phone.
