Going back to PS1 games, Legend of Legaia's English translation (1999) also manages to avoid using quotation marks and instead sets terms apart by either capitalizing them or putting them in brackets. (There's a pronunciation note in JP saying 獣 should be read as セル btw) (thread: 6/10)

Fantastic thread from Katrina! Here's some video game examples to back up what she's saying. If a video game translated in 1990 (which had one of the Japanese developers checking every single line to confirm accuracy) can manage to properly translate 「」, so can you! (thread: 1/10)

PlayStation Underground Winter 1999

In a lot of games mirrors are just reversed characters mimicking the player, and it's almost the case for Legend of Legaia. However the character isn't reversed (Meta on the left arm in the mirror instead of the right) and the walk cycle is wrong (Right leg forward in the mirror instead of back).

The soundtrack CD to Legend of Legaia (PS1) that I picked up online around 2000. Super underrated, under-discussed game (and soundtrack). The internet tells me it's now worth about $200!

I've never played Duel Saga, but as a Matsuno fan- I *have* listened to the OST. (Which I like!) Sakimoto, Mitsuda and Oshima all on the same project? If Shibao hadn't been ostracized from the sequel- we might still be playing Legaia games to this day. He really was the magic ingredient.

Vahn - Legend of Legaia

Calling Gala (the best one) the "brute" of the three main characters is crazy work. Gala has the highest INT stat of the group. He's the best at everything once his AGI catches up.

Natsumi Arisawa made a series of drawings of the main 3 wearing in-game armor, instead of their default clothing. Clean (full-body) versions of both Vahn and Noa are available online, but the only instance I can find of Gala's drawing is tucked away on page 57 of Prima's Official Strategy Guide.

Shocked that Mei didn't get her own illustration. I've only ever seen the render.

This game is bringing back some memories. When I had originally played Legend of Legaia, I was like 10 or so and when I would play with my friends outside I would go out with a hard shell knee pad on my arm and pretend it was a Ra-Seru.

Sony giving up and letting other companies publish games and franchises they no longer care about gives me hope that I’ll one day be able to play Legend of Legaia on Switch.
