One of my favorite Christmas memories from childhood is when my parents decided to cut out the stress of a big dinner and make what everyone in our house liked: tacos. Sometimes the standards we are holding ourselves to are life-sucking rather than life-giving.

The kernels of strawberry popcorn are super sharp. Pulling the kernels off the cobs shredded my hands, but I’m super excited about how much we got. There’s something so satisfying about growing things yourself.

Felt cute. Might teach a bunch of women about Jael today.

We have grown other varieties of popcorn before and had no success with the kernels actually popping. It worked this time! So excited!

Woke up this morning to my fridge on the fritz, and I got pulled over for a broken taillight while I was on my way to the place to get it fixed. Happy Tuesday that thinks it’s a Monday to all who celebrate!

While on our walk, a tree was overwhelmed with chaotic chirping, tweeting, and rustling. It sounded like the tree was alive. Suddenly, a blue jay flew into the mix while squawking loudly. All the chirping stopped. Who knew blue jays were community noise ordinance enforcers?

My geranium never got the memo that the season is over. We’ve had a few hard freezes, and she hasn’t given up hope.

Who is my neighbor? *The one about to lose SNAP benefits. *The parent about to lose WIC for their infant child. *The person detained because of their skin color. *The one who is ill and losing access to necessary treatments.

I’ve felt sad the last few days, but I made and shared cookies with a group. I’m making chili and cinnamon rolls tonight to feed the office for lunch tomorrow. Feeding people is my love language, and I won’t let the dumpster fire of the world or my emotional dysfunction take that away from me.

I accidentally said 6-7 at youth group tonight. Prayers and well wishes are appreciated.

I’m not one to use my car horn frequently, but when a person blows a stop sign and nearly causes an accident, it’s really unsatisfying to have a car horn that sounds like a kazoo.

I just started roasting and puréeing pumpkins from my garden. I did the biggest pumpkin today and got almost 7 cups of pumpkin (just shy of 4 cans worth). #gardening

The annual pet blessing today was windy, but wonderful. Lots of doggy friends.

We are in a freeze watch for tomorrow night. So, today we started pulling out the garden. Here is some of the strawberry popcorn we grew. I love it so much! #gardening

We harvested the giant sunflower today. It was at least 12-13 feet tall after it started drooping. This is a Hopi purple dye sunflower. I want to try dyeing something with it. What should I make?

It’s that time of year when my glasses fog up the second I go inside.

It’s been a busy baking day. One kid requested pumpkin banana bread. I had no idea that was a thing, but I found a recipe and made that. Jeff requested sharp cheddar and bell pepper bread. It got a little explode-y in the oven, but it smells great.

Pretty sure this headache was caused by barometric pressure changes. The moment it started raining = relief.

One of the best parts of making homemade cabbage pockets (runzas/bierocks) is making homemade cinnamon rolls with the rest of the dough. #homemade

It’s the time of year when the garden harvest is hanging and drying all over the house.

I don’t think my phone has a hold on me until I hear my ringtone on someone else’s phone and instinctively start searching frantically for my phone.

It’s sermon writing time this morning, but my brain is broken. So, I guess I’ll just sit in the coffee shop, sipping my turmeric tea, and stare at the wall for a while. This is part of the process, right?

A person to me yesterday: “Would you like some peaches from my tree? They have some bad spots, and the pits aren’t cling-free?” I take the peaches home and I start to realize that beautiful things often show up with seeming rough spots and requiring effort to see them. May I have eyes to see today.
