Someone asked to reprint one of my articles for a Brazilian journal, so the article has been translated into Portuguese. I uploaded the original & translation into ChatGPT & asked about the translation quality. I have also asked a native speaker to do some review, but such a cool use of the tech.

Thoughts on FCPA enforcement. First, the United States used to be virtually alone in its enforcement efforts aimed at stoping corruption and bribery. That is no longer true. Brazil, France, Mexico, and the UK, for example, have dedicated units to combat corruption and bring cases to that effect.

Normally, I get irritated when I receive a high-priority email, but it turns out I get excited when that high priority email is from the Duke Faculty Club with instructions on how to get my membership processed.

Having just done my annual review, if I were to finish all the half-written things in my drafts folder, it would be like the time when someone said to me during an interview "you wrote an entire tenure file in a year." The problem, however, is now my three children all do sports.

When giving talks/teaching on compliance, I note that my definition of compliance includes compliance with the firm's own policies & procedures, because a violation of them can often lead to sanctions. I typically refer to the Ind. Foreclosure Rev. settlements, but this is a more recent example.

Today marked the final session of our Corporate Compliance & Ethics class for the semester, where we explored the Boeing documentary as a case study. Given the ongoing circumstances at Boeing, it offered a unique opportunity to analyze cultural transformation as it unfolds in real time.
