Just watched a TV drama where something was described as ‘peng’, which meant nothing to me. So I looked it up and apparently it’s UK slang for excellent, attractive, beautiful. Sometimes I feel every year of my age.

Jazz FM just played The Sticks by Cannonball Adderley and I swear I was dancing around the kitchen. A proper banger, as my daughter would say.

#NowPlaying 1998 compilation of part one of The Waterboys life and Mike Scott’s two excellent solo efforts. I loved all the albums this music came from (except perhaps Dream Harder) and could easily have curated a triple Best Of if the record company had only had the good sense to ask me!

Just walked past this tacky, tourist trap Harry Potter shop, but the site has a much more interesting history. It’s at 102 Southampton Row, and it housed the Indica Bookshop, of 1960s counterculture fame. There really should be a blue plaque.

#NowPlaying Early Simple Minds is all I need. They were just so good. Didn’t like the stadium version at all.

#NowPlaying An absolute classic from 1974. What a dynamic performer Van was then. By the time I saw him in the mid ‘80s he definitely wasn’t trying any high kicks, but the voice was still magnificent and he had even more great albums from which to choose his setlist.

#NowPlaying Always liked her voice. I used to have an interesting album she made with Chick Corea and (IIRC) a stellar band on Elektra Musician but I can’t seem to find it.
