After suffering from a herniated L5 disk for 3 years (which I believe was 2006-2008 but the pain of the injury might have seriously messed up my time line), I gave up sitting and converted to a standing desk. L5 healed, also inter-shoulder pain healed. Never looked back.

I'm finishing John Keegan's History of Warfare and working through Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel. Neither (so far) mention kinship as a way in which a society takes a rapid departure from some characteristic. I get the feeling no college departments ever interact with kinship departments 🏺

Viktor Frankl's The Doctor and the Soul makes a very compelling case for Logotherapy, but the author's occasional regard for eugenics casts a frightening pall over the whole book. Yes he was a man of his time, but reading about it today gives me the chills.

Claude Levi-Strauss's Elementary Structures of Kinship is almost unreadable. If it weren't the best kinship book I've ever read, I'd have abandoned it a month ago. I really think the author and translators had little interest in making it readable to the average person, yet here I am reading it...
