The Battle of Solferino took place on this day in 1859. Henry Dunant witnessed the battle & was so horrified by the suffering that he wrote 'A Memory of Solferino', which called for better care for wounded soldiers in wartime. In 1863, he co-founded the ICRC.

📍 Gaza | We are devastated by the killing of our colleague Mahmoud Barakeh, who worked at the Red Cross Field Hospital. He was killed on his way home on Sunday, 22 June. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones. Five ICRC colleagues have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
