Ran into an old warhammer buddy and dorm room neighbor from college at Costco last night. I haven’t seen him in like 12-15 years. Pretty small world.

Played draw steel tonight on their proprietary vtt. First impressions were good. Combat felt punchy and pretty quick. our barbarian hit a goblin so hard two other nearby goblins died from the shrapnel. At least from a player side the vtt was really impressive. I’m sure we’ll play more of it.

After I repair and re-paint my wife’s elder army so we can play 40k and and teach my kiddo how to play I think I want to paint a marine to fit every chapter of the Badab war, my favorite time period in 40k lore. I have a bunch of mk4 marines from betrayal at Calth and tons of bits to customize them

3rd edition 40k is so good you get these incredible little short fiction bits surrounded by dark, brooding art from John Blanche, then you turn the page and it’s a full page toy ad in bright primary colors. It’s like the tonal whiplash is part of some joke that you’re in on with the writers.

Oh shit. Found some folks locally to play 3rd edition 40k in person!!!! Having a thriving local gaming scene with excellent local game stores is so weird having grown up in a small town.

Tactical squad done! 9 guys with a heavy bolter to accompany the Commander in his rhino. Really stoked about how the banner bearer (vet Sgt.) turned out.

Bases done matte varnished and ready for the tabletop. I love painting canonically stealthy units because you can do unusual paint jobs and have an excuse to basically skip painting them the traditional way.

Scouts are 90% done right here. Going for a full stealthed out look with the Sam fisher goggles. Will be adding some dusty red pigment to the bases and ip the legs but otherwise I’m going to leave them stealth mode.

Bases are drying. Scouts are primed. Tanks have been muddied up in preparation for weathering powder and matte varnish. Progress continues towards 1000 points of space marines for 3rd edition 40k.

The old metal space marine scout snipers sculpts were gorgeous. Fuck me what a great model. After 24hrs in cutru-strip and removing like a quarter inch of primer from whoever I bought these off of in college they’re ready for a new prime and paint job. One of my all time favorite GW sculpts.

A little bit of weathering powder and texture paint goes a long way.

Ordered a 3rd edition space marine codex today. Pretty stoked to flip through it again and revel in the nostalgia

I went digging through my college miniatures projects this evening and feeling sentimental about the armies and I think I owe it to myself to finish this space marine army. All that’s left is the bases and 6 scouts to hit exactly 1000 points in 3rd ed 40k.

Had my mom in town for the last 3 days. Really nice visit, got to hear about how she and her friends chained themselves to the gates of the governors mansion in Florida back in the day to protest the death penalty. She’s always been cool as fuck.

Next mini project! I found sharky and his ruffians in my old middle earth miniatures box and stripped the awful paint off them. I think they’ll make awesome bandits and a great wizard for dnd.

Playing dnd with my kid! For a first game ever he did great listening. We struggled a little with not grabbing all the things but a spooky skeleton was vanquished and he had a blast. Tomorrow he’s gonna go look for a haunted house in the dark Forrest.

Man, mothership is just one of those games that gets me all excited to make stuff for it. I kinda want to put together a D100 list of weapons grade wholesome/cute encounters on prospero’s dream to juxtapose against all the fucked up shit I’m about to put my players through.

First session of a new mothership campaign set on prosperos dream went well tonight. A murderous android, memory erasing employee orientation pods and the abandoned offices of their former employers who went out of business while they were in cryosleep without issuing final paychecks.

I have never played in a classic dungeon crawling campaign. I’ve run large dungeons in the past but I have never done a proper megadungeon game and I feel like it’s a huge blind spot in my ttrpg repertoire.

Got to play a game of infinity yesterday, and was reminded why it’s my absolute favorite tabletop wargame. Ended up barely scraping out a win despite losing most of my troops due to a couple clutch plays in the late game.
