I know that a lot of folx in the U.S. woke up this morning with a bit of the weight we’ve been carrying for a year lifted. A year ago today, my life quite literally fell apart. This is no exaggeration because for three days, I could not walk. My body simply stopped.

Look around, the crisis of disconnection among men isn’t new...it’s inherited. A culture built on control leaves no room for care. Life Beyond the Supremacy Myth is a call to rebuild community where integrity, joy, and courage take the place of domination.

I would challenge that it's a "misunderstanding" because the history of this country documents the violent intent and permission structure. This is by design...full stop!

During my time with the participants of Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton – Mediocre, a few things have become clear. It’s not just about how you uphold the myth of white supremacy. It’s about how deeply that myth has hollowed you out from the inside. Here’s what I now know:

Andrew Cuomo, who on paper is a Democrat and served as Governor of New York from 2011 to 2021, was just endorsed by Donald Trump. Pause for a moment and let that sink in. This is not an isolated incident.

I don’t know why, but out of nowhere the story of the “Sword of Damocles” came to mind today. When I looked it up, this line from Wikipedia stopped me cold: “Though having much fortune, [he was] always having to watch in anxiety against dangers that might try to overtake him.”

I recently came across the term “the politics of care” while watching the YouTube video From Prince to Commoner: What Andrew’s Downfall Tells Us About Power. The concept is explored beautifully in an academic article by Berenice Malka Fisher and Maurice Hamington, which asks:

Between George Clooney saying it was a mistake to push Biden out and the chatter about Jon Stewart possibly entering politics, I can’t help but see, once again, the myth of white male supremacy at work in real time. It’s the same story, over and over again.

The myth of white supremacy was never about truth...it was about control. Laws, institutions, and economies were built to uphold it. And for centuries, white men were taught that domination was leadership. That training didn’t just harm others, it broke something in you, too.

As a certified special needs educator, I knew that my students’ challenges, academic or social, never devalued their humanity. Providing them with specialized services, attention, and care wasn’t about lowering expectations;

Every so often, I have to pause and remind folx of a few things. Not because I owe anyone an explanation, but because clarity is an act of care. So, let me make a few things clear: 1. I post what I want.

In Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America, Ijeoma Oluo asks a question that every white man needs to sit with: “Why do white men decrease their level of performance when a woman or person of color becomes CEO?”

White men in tech have a lot of repair work to do. For decades, too many of you have sat comfortably in rooms built on exclusion, quietly benefiting while you lionized other mediocre, unremarkable white men as “visionaries.”

Now is not the time to give in to fear or despair. Now is the time to train, to learn how to use the privilege afforded to you through the myth of white supremacy to help build a future rooted in equity, respect, and care.

A couple of months ago, I joined @kimcrayton1.bsky.social's Profit Without Oppression community and also started participating in a 14-week series of facilitated conversations with Kim, as I and a group of white men work through Ijeoma Oluo's book Mediocre.

In Mediocre, Ijeoma Oluo writes, “White male mediocrity has always been protected, promoted, and excused.” For 14 weeks, white men in Facilitated Conversations have been sitting with this, and others, truth.

The myth of white supremacy is destroying white folx from the inside out.

White parents with Black children who do not have a consistent, demonstrated antiracist practice are child abusers. If you have no understanding of, and no strategy against, your own indoctrinated white supremacist beliefs and behaviors,

Warning: do not take anything I share as an opportunity to seek comfort by interrogating the Black people in your lives to get them to say that I’m wrong or that you’re somehow different. Let’s be honest, every one of us has work to do when it comes to unpacking the internalized myth of white...

Why do white people overshare? Because you fundamentally don’t understand the concept of consent, especially when it comes to non-white folx. Consent is the permission or agreement given by a person for something to happen, a clear and voluntary decision to participate in an activity.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “God, grant me the confidence of a mediocre white man.” It’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a jab at the audacity of white men who move through the world certain of their belonging, their brilliance, and their right to lead.

White men...the story you were taught about yourselves was never true. It promised power, but stole your humanity. It gave you control, but robbed you of connection. It’s time to unlearn the lies.

When I read @anildash.com “The Majority AI View”, what struck me most wasn’t just his critique of the current state of AI, it was how clearly it exposes the same predictable pattern that Ijeoma Oluo lays out in Mediocre, and that I continue to explore through Life Beyond the Supremacy Myth.

Folx often assume that because of the content I share, I don’t have any white friends. That’s untrue. In fact, the white friends I do have are some of my closest relationships. Not because they’re “different” from other white people,

Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a situation of our collective making. We’ve been so thoroughly indoctrinated by the myth of white supremacy and the belief in the inherent ability of white men to lead that we’re now facing the consequences of that blind loyalty.

The GI Bill is often held up as one of America’s crowning achievements. A symbol of fairness, opportunity, and gratitude toward those who served. But that story, like so many others in this country, is a carefully curated myth.

During the Great Depression, Labor Secretary James Doak authorized raids on private homes, businesses, and churches. Rounding up and deporting thousands of Mexican and Mexican American people without due process. Sound familiar?

“The Negro was born in a depression. It didn't mean too much to him, the Great American Depression, as you call it. There was no such thing. It only became official when it hit the white man.

“Resentment toward working women during the Great Depression was a uniquely white problem.” This one sentence Ijeoma Oluo’s book Mediocre exposes so much about the myth of white male supremacy and how it sustains itself.

It’s a tale as old as time. Zuckerberg, Musk, Dorsey, Benioff, the Cuomo brothers, and now the random “Purple Revolution” dude, the path from “good white dude” to openly white supremacist is almost always triggered by one simple thing: being told “No.”

“Good white people” still clinging to the Myth of White Supremacy, how’s that working out for you? How much time, effort, and attention do you devote to keeping that myth alive? What does it cost you to maintain the illusion of superiority in your body, your relationships, your sense of self?

Common annoyances, inconveniences, and disappointments shouldn’t unravel you but for so many white folx, they do. That flash of rage when plans change. That deep frustration when someone doesn’t immediately accommodate your needs.

In my dreams last night, one message kept repeating itself: You can’t just be concerned about you and yours, who’s in your boat, you also have to consider those who are being pulled under by the wake you leave behind.

Ijeoma Oluo wrote in Mediocre: “My entire life in Seattle has required that I navigate how whiteness refuses to acknowledge itself and yet insists on asserting itself whenever it encounters people of color.”

The thing about the myth of white supremacy is that it demands loyalty, even when that loyalty comes at the expense of your own health, livelihood, and survival. According to recent data, 57% of ACA (Affordable Care Act) enrollees live in Republican-run states...

White “progressives” and “liberals” have always pivoted right when it benefited them. Ijeoma Oluo writes in Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America that during George Wallace’s first run for governor of Alabama, “he was outspoken against the KKK and was even endorsed by the NAACP."

This isn’t new. It’s a tale as old as time. White men being rewarded for potential while everyone else has to prove, over and over, their lived experience, expertise, and excellence. What’s changing, though, is that the pattern is no longer hidden or tolerated.

Learning just how many “good white folx” who consider themselves “progressive” or “liberal” are “escaping” the violence and control of conservative religious beliefs needs to be studied, because their approach is very different from white folx...

White “progressives” and “liberals” exercising their First Amendment rights by protesting at Kamala Harris’s book tour events isn’t the flex you think it is or having the impact you claim to want.

Any revolution, purple or otherwise, that demands those impacted by harm extend the benefit of the doubt to or assume “positive intent” from those who championed, sanctioned, or ignored that harm, without observable contrition and a strategy for repair that doesn’t center them,

The height of the myth of white, mediocre male supremacy is believing, with your full chest, that you deserved a Nobel PEACE Prize while actively ticking off an enemies list. This is what happens when power, privilege, and ego go unchecked.

I am so sick of public discourse defaulting to the opinions of uninformed, mediocre, unremarkable white dudes with platforms. I don’t give a fuck about these “manosphere” weaklings or the political commentators who spent years championing white supremacist talking points...
