Hey “good white folx,” So, you’ve proven you can take action. You canceled Disney, rallied around Kimmel, and feel good that you’ve “done something.” But now what? Will this be yet another moment where your actions only extend as far as how close to home the issue hits?

From Urgency to Action: An Emergency Call to Community This Saturday, September 20th, I’m hosting an emergency Profit Without Oppression Co-Conspirator Network meeting (11am–12:30pm EST).

When I wake up to headlines like these, I’m reminded that everything we warned “good white folx” about is unfolding in real time and honestly, given your lack of engagement up to this point, I don’t trust that you’ll be of any use now that you’re being directly targeted:

I said this in 2020, and it holds even truer today: I saw no discernible difference between “Bernie Bros” and Trump supporters. Their anger and vitriol landed the same and caused similar harm.

There’s no blueprint for this work. I can’t lean on my years of experience in curriculum design or facilitation because there’s no model for what it means to both educate the oppressor and process my own oppression in real time.

Vulnerable folx are losing their jobs for daring to share ambivalence about last week’s events, while white folx got to weep and wail without consequence. That’s not “free speech.” That’s yet another example of the violence of the myth of white supremacy.

A 2019 report showed that nonwhite school districts received $23 billion less per year than their white counterparts. And even when controlled for income, poor white schools still received more funding than poor schools where the majority of the students were people of color.

James Baldwin once said: “I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.” That pain is the truth at the center of whiteness.

One of the themes that emerged in yesterday’s Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton — Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America by Ijeoma Oluo was the nuance that all of whiteness is violence.

The events of last week were the canon moment I’ve been waiting for. A moment white folx couldn’t ignore no matter how hard they tried to shift focus or assign blame. A high-profile agent of hate became a victim of the same violence he promoted.

During yesterday’s live session of Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton — Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America by Ijeoma Oluo, something became painfully clear: there is no joy in “whiteness.”

This past week should have made one thing clear…not all white supremacists wear hoods or spew hate from public platforms. Many move quietly, embedded among the most vulnerable, wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Having a generous leave-from-work strategy: PTO, sick leave, parental leave, short-term disability, means nothing if taking that time creates a crisis event upon return. That is NOT a benefit. That’s mismanagement.

It never fails. White people respond to my posts about the myth of white supremacy and the fact that all white people are racist by design…by being obtuse at best, while DEMONSTRATING the very racist behavior I just named.

The myth of white supremacy isn’t a bacteria you kill off with a quick dose of antibiotics. It’s a chronic disease. It requires ongoing treatment. And even then, flare-ups are inevitable.

After the election we just survived, many are shocked that “good white folx” they thought were safe are mourning someone who delighted in targeting the most vulnerable. But here’s the truth: Whiteness Will Always Choose Whiteness.

I joined this community recently and I‘d love for you to check it out. It’s almost an anti-Facebook, a community directly opposed to white supremacy while also providing a space for white people to unpack their internalized racism in a moderated environment.

It’s moments like this that remind me why I created the Profit Without Oppression (PWO) Community. For too long, “good white folx” have had nowhere to process the ways the myth of white supremacy benefits you at the expense of everyone else.

“Good white people,” there is never a good time to scold those who have been targets of violence, for generations, in service to the myth of white supremacy but especially when they refuse to mourn those who chose to oppress and inflict harm.

An over-ambitious strategy will kill an audacious goal. Every time. Too often, we believe business owners fail because they “did something wrong”—poor timing, risky finances, staffing struggles, strained relationships, or knowledge gaps.

I told you this was a death cult. Folks laughed it off, dismissed it, or tried to gaslight me into believing I was exaggerating. Well, here we are. Watching people so addicted to the myth of white supremacy that they’ll torch the whole thing ,themselves included, just to keep from facing reality.

The myth of white supremacy has never been about “independence,” “hard work,” or “pulling yourself up by the bootstraps.” It has always depended on collective resources, the very definition of socialism, just repackaged as privilege.

Yes, defending Angel Reese is personal. Because defending Angel Reese isn’t just about the game. It’s about what it feels like, deep in my body, every time a Black woman is targeted for speaking up, asking for more, or simply refusing to shrink.

“Angel Reese thinks she’s bigger than the program.” After what’s been exposed about the Chicago Sky organization, I’d say that she is. And rightfully so.

“And we all know the truth is subjective.” — Death in Paradise, S10:E1 Let’s be clear: truth isn’t subjective…our perspectives are. That idea, “truth is subjective”, is the weapon of choice for those who thrive on manipulation and deceit.

White voters realizing that further empowering the already extremely powerful and privileged may not have been wise exposes the myth of white supremacy in real time, and honestly, it’s the kind of theater I didn’t know I needed.

What I see playing out between the Chicago Sky and Angel Reese is what most Black women experience regularly in the workplace. Because no matter your level of expertise, there’s ALWAYS a mediocre, unremarkable white dude in the mix, armed with a “benefit of the doubt” résumé/CV and an...

Learning that the GM of the Chicago Sky has not only NEVER coached basketball but has also NEVER played for any school or professional team reminded me of one of the Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton – Mediocre prompts:
