Animating this cutie today 🥰

Animating little painted wisps. It’s quite therapeutic and relaxing. It’s also a demonstration of how spontaneity can exist within the medium of stop motion. I like going into an animation session not knowing where the paint will take me. These wisps will make lovely accents in my current project.🎨

It's grant writing time again, which means I shall once again knock on the doors that have NEVER awarded an animated project any funding despite specifically allowing for animated projects to submit. Isn't that weird of both me and them? What a strange dance we do each year.

I've been spending large amounts of time today shooting and re shooting some complicated, but hidden background detail animation for my new project. The type of stuff that no one will pay attention to, but would stick out like a sore thumb if I messed it up. Learned some new tricks along the way! ✂️

I had a similar experience to this recently. Super bummer cause there's a drafthouse within walking distance of my place. We had a much better experience at the local discount cinema last week, so will go there from now on I suppose. Gotta love late stage capitalism.

Went the the Alamo Drafthouse for the first time since they changed their system. So frustrating. I missed the previews struggling with their app and eventually just gave up and asked a server to help. He did, but it was hard for him too. So upsetting, but I think the magic is gone now. 😪

Tinkering with some new cat designs. It is at the same time a more minimal design than I used in When You Get To The Forest, as it is slightly more complex. I also think it’s cute.🥰

Starting to get very antsy about finding a way into production on Summer in Fall. 😳 I keep trying things to fulfill my creative needs (t-shirt designs, framing art, making random crafts) but NOTHING compares to the thrill of feature animation creation. Dear Elder Gods, send me producers!

@andreaspetersen.bsky.social had the idea that I could potentially use sand animation to create our own custom “grain” to composite into the short horror film we are hoping to make. Happy to say the man was right! Tested and confirmed. Here I am making the grain. I’ll share the results soon.

I walked nearly 9 miles around Taichung today checking out gardens, a science museum, and a lively night market. Now Godzilla and I are gonna chill!

I’ve only been in Taiwan one day and I already have seen many wonders! There’s a great enthusiasm for animation here. I had a lovely first screening and an excellent Q & A session after with true stop motion lovers. Had to grab some creepy budget masks for the kids too!

I will be heading to Taiwan next week to show my animated documentary Papercuts and participate in a Master's Talk (which is wild!) Over there my film title translates to: Paper Dream Wonderland - The Adventure of an Independent Animator and I kinda like that title more!
