I have seen countless adults in this family of birds -- thousands of them over the years -- but I had never before seen a baby. This is a herring gull chick.

Tiger eyes are designed for for night vision. They have more rods (acuity for shapes) in their eyes than cones (color vision), and they have a mirror-like structure at the back of the eye that reflects light back into the eye a second time. Tigers need about 1/6 the light humans do to see.

The humans were far away, so there may have been a nearby tiger we couldn't see that motivated DM to display his dominance.

This barking deer was very cautious about getting a drink of water. They are solitary, so there were no other deer to stand guard.

An exciting encounter involved Tigress Ra. Before we saw her, we heard Ra calling out to her sub adult cubs who were scattered, but within calling distance. For about five minutes we heard her calling with the cubs occasionally replying. Mom had decided it was time to move to a new area.

This son of DM showed us how well tigers can match the dry grass in which they live much of the year. He still lives in his mom's territory, but probably looks forward to being old enough to have his own.
