This was racism. Teanau Tuiono was born in Henderson Auckland. His mother is Ngāpuhi and Ngāi Takoto. His father was from Atiu in Rarotonga. People from Rarotonga have automatic NZ citizenship and travel on NZ passports which carries the country names NZ & Aotearoa.
