This week, the GOP slid an amendment into the budget reconciliation process that would ban US states from enacting laws that govern AI. This of course was not an aberration—it’s the direct result of Silicon Valley lobbying efforts, and big tech’s union with Trump and the Republican Party.

AI is not the future, people are. Tech bros think that everything in the world can be diluted to an algorithm, and the reality times and again proves them wrong. Music, graphics, art and competency cannot be generated. Only hype can.

This is one of the best episodes, I love Cory's take on hope vs optimism. If you want to better understand how technology changes our lives (and you're tired of those who drank the Kool Aid with AI and stuff), this is a podcast for you!

Looking at powerful people (not naming names, cause it's too obvious), I see arrogance and hubris. Not that I wish anyone harm, but I wouldn't mind some classic comeuppance...

Unfortunately, the current information environment and social media do not make us eager fact checkers. And the "we have a scientist at home" machine will only feed into that.

Seriously, the whole genAI world is one ethical person after another. All media outlets are "benchmarking" both chatbots testing which one would better compose a dumb poem, suggest a title for a podcast, or analyse ingredients of a food product. Finally a technology that can do all those things!;)

One widely quoted tech bro in my country said that no one should doubt that AI is a bigger revolution than the Internet. Maybe future AI will be that, but what they're pushing now is simply wishful thinking. AGI is around the corner. The problem is that the corner is in another solar system.

Everyone's fuming about chip "embargoes" and how it will slow down the already super fast progress towards hyper efficient whatever the current acronym is (AGI?). I think what AI companies are doing is completely justified. All the essays, all the dumb images, all the to-dos it'll do for us. Wow.

Some movies are like Linear A. Some are like the first three letters of the alphabet and are proud of it. Stargate knows what it is, and it's not Linear A What do our brave movie diggers discover this time? That cigarettes and guns are how you move a civilization to another level:) Great episode!

Also, a bit more shallow observation: gladiators had their chests exposed, which was dumb protection-wise, but made sense from the spectacle point of view. And bows and arrows were never that effective against armour like in this film. Why do Hollywood people hate learning anything about history?

Happy Birthday, Ms. Vogler! You did it again, the episode is great, as always. You were a bit less negative on the film compared to others I've listened to, but you still made a wonderful point about the ending, and about the fact that the history of the Severans is a readymade screenplay.

I don't want to go political, it's not that anybody cares what I think, but I've been wondering: If a person claims they'll singlehandedly solve various complex issues "just like that", am I correct to be a bit unconvinced it's possible?
