An underrated aspect to Lincoln is how effective of a politician he was. There's a reason why his camp in 1860 thought he needed to be the nominee over Seward.

If you're curious about how it's going in the Indian WhatsApp circles, ICE rounded up a 73 year-old Punjabi grandma, put her in a prison jumpsuit, gave her no food she could eat, and dropped her off in New Delhi. Her brother in law's statement is "young people shouldn't run away to America anymore"

Kind of crazy that both the AL East and AL Central are going to be determined by whether Toronto and Cleveland can win their two remaining games. Has there ever been two divisions that were tied at the end of the season?

FBI only tries something like this when they know you're guilty as sin and taking so many bribes that it wouldn't throw you off that there's a bunch of money in a bag from people you met five seconds ago.

I think this is probably close to the case (reading the text messages between him and his roommate doesn’t dissuade from this), and it ought to be terrifying to everybody. Looks mostly like this was an ordinary dude, not consumed by politics, who just decided one day to do this thing and did it.

+6 with white voters and +9 with men a week after being murdered. I don't know what's going on here but the Miller crowd is definitely over-exposed here.

Aliens would do a better job simulating life than whatever this is. Even if your daughter eats a pound of blueberries a day that's only around $4K. Just gross stuff.

Feel like there's something to say about white America supercharging suburban alienation into a rural super alienation where you eat your choices are eating Applebee's and letting your kid sit on the computer for twelve hours a day because there's nothing else to do

What really nails this as a predictive model: notice now that the moment the shooter appeared to be even slightly on the right Nancy Mace pivoted to the shooter being a tragic figure who must be mourned. Club of people who count, and club of people who don't. Real bad stuff.

Even risk adverse Democrats should open an investigation as to why Kash Patel's FBI is now on their third (maybe going on fourth?) person of interest and why they clearly have no idea who murdered a Trump advisor.

I first met Ezra Klein when he was a 19 year old UCSC student. I’ve seen him high in an Adams Morgan rowhouse backyard. I’ve watched him defend Megan McArdle’s honor. I remember JournoList. That op-ed is the most embarrassing thing I have ever seen Ezra Klein say in his entire adult life

Someone assassinated one of the President's advisors in broad daylight and the combo of FBI and local authorities have caught and released two guys with no leads on the actual subject. It should be a major scandal for multiple levels of law enforcement.

I don't know where this is going to go but I do think it is a major problem for the administration that the entirety of conservative media is scared of future attacks while the FBI bumbles around and is unable to find the suspect at large.

Probably a story here about how authorities have now detained two individuals only to release them. What exactly has happened to the FBI?

My best friend's dad is Argentinian. He fled the country because most of his close friends were disappeared, and he still has terrible PTSD and survivor's guilt today. Ask someone who grew up during the Years of Lead whether that was fun. That's where civil conflict gets you.

It’s not simply important to denounce political violence because it looks bad not to. It’s the right thing to do on the merits. Even more specifically to this moment it’s important because the forces of fascism are inherently better at political violence than the forces of civic democracy.

The winner of the one seed in the AL is going to get the awesome matchup of NYY/BOS all for the privilege of getting home field advantage in the ALCS, which they will have anyways if the two seed loses. Two seed on the other hand is going to get the winner of the West and the six seed

Circle your calendars for Nov. 5th because most of the beltway elites live in Virginia and every sign currently points to Dems winning big there. Hard not to see a Chris Matthews-esque meltdown from these types.

I think something that the Mamdani campaign has done very well is to have a clear-eyed view of the problems they face and an understanding of the resources to do it. For example, biggest problem they have now is that it's a long gap before election day. Using staff for a scavenger hunt solves it.

Lots of problems with the methodology, but the most obvious being that Trump will not be on the ballot in 2026. Wouldn't you at least try to maximize this consultant BS against the generic ballot?
