This is a personal post but I wanted to keep people updated. I was broken up with, and I'm dealing with the pain of that right now. Needless to say, I'm not sure when the next episode of SaFic & Chill will happen. I'd love to be able to record an episode, but it's challenging for me at the moment.

Like. It does not escape me how people will just. Accept an mmc who kidnaps his love interest, is a misogynist, is violent, etc. There's a whole genre of romance to safely explore that. But the SECOND a woman does a fraction of these things, romantasy explodes. Hmm.

The first episode of SaFic & Chill will be filmed this week and release next week! The theme? Romance tropes that I love, hate, and can give or take. (In sapphic romance specifically, of course!)

When wlw write it as a lesbian dynamic, it tends to be about the character's emotional distance and building a connection as part of the lesbian romance. That's a compelling story arc/character arc that can indeed be relatable. But the politics are very different to the original trope. 5/6

I think this is a case of sapphic romance using an existing well-established romance archetype because those kinds of archetypes are part of the genre of romance. And romance is a genre largely shaped by the production of heterosexual media, which is the media that defined the Ice Queen. 2/x

A common trope in sapphic romance is the "Ice Queen". An "Ice Queen" typically refers to a sapphic woman is who emotionally distant and cold, who does not love or even like easily. Sometimes "Ice Queen's" are specifically socially harsh or mean, other times they are simply closed off.

Stockard Channing as Rizzo in Grease was my queer awakening that I didn't even know was my queer awakening until years later. I always felt like something was ✨different✨ about her. A sapphic version of Grease would be amazing.
