I find the Sky Sports Halo experiment somewhat interesting. For a big corporate, with decades of experience in media, its a massive fuckup. I get the idea behind it: the demographics of sport viewers is slowly shifting away from "35+ males". Sky Sports thought they could accelerate this shift.

Just over a month ago, it was announced that Chloé Tryon would be replaced in the WBBL, due to national commitments. A bit weird that she's the only Proteas player replaced.

Pre-tournament I thought SA could easily miss the semi-finals by net-run-rate (at this point I was not expecting rain to join as a 9th team), so ending as runner-up is a good result.

A proper fielding effort by the Proteas has probably saved 40+ runs. Won't be easy, but they've given themselves a good chance at this.

Over in Potch, the Dragons are up against WP. WP have made 307/8 in their innings, the highest total in SA Women's List A since going professional. Following up from her 110* last weekend, Faye Tunnicliffe scored 138(116). Three wickets for Thuto Thibedi.

Innings break in the Pro50 match between the Lions and the Badgers. Lions posted 171 all out, with their only performance being Sunette Viljoen-Louw's 74(100). Two wickets each for Zintle Kula, Nicolien JvR and Kiara Fisher.

Quite enjoyed the commentary of Sharne Mayers during tonight's game between Boland and the Dragons. Hoping SuperSport will also get her for the Ireland tour in a few weeks.

Down at Newlands Western Province are playing against the Titans. WP have made 256/7 in their 50 overs. Lara Goodall top scored with 105(145), with Dané van Niekerk getting 74(65). Paulinah Mashishi and Luyanda Nzuza took two wickets each, with Angel Mngwenya taking a wicket on her Titans debut.

Also in this match: Ireland captain Gaby Lewis, making her debut for the Badgers.

Halfway mark in the Pro50 match between the Dolphins and the Badgers at Durban. Dolphins have posted 243/6. Michaela Andrews with solid 74 (70) and Shesnie Naidu with a career best 55(87). Mieke de Ridder (bowling for the first time in senior cricket) took 1/31.

On Phebe Molkenboer: As shown today, having an international player makes a big difference in the competitiveness of a team. Weird that the Dragons didn't post anything about her joining the team; no idea if it's for the whole season, or only the first half or maybe it's just for this weekend.

The North West Dragons make their return to Division 1 today, in a 50 over match against the Titans. The weather in Potch is looking rather gloomy, so will probably not get a full match played. Here's the lineups, including a Netherlands international (?):

Western Province are in Oudtshoorn this weekend, playing the Garden Route Badgers. In the 50 over match today, the Badgers won by a solid 75 runs.

South Africa's route to the semi-finals has been made a lot easier, thanks to a smashing innings by Nadine de Klerk. Also, how nice from Richa Ghosh to fake an injury; it really helped de Klerk to catch her breath before finishing the job.

Start of the SA women's domestic season today with the Lions hosting the Dolphins at the Wanderers for a Pro50 match. Lions won the toss and decided to field first. They bowled out the Dolphins for 246 in 49.5 overs.

After the first round of matches South Africa are at the bottom of the table with a net run-rate of - 3.77. In their last two matches, the Proteas have been bowled out for 115 and 69. Before that, their 2025 first innings average was 276.

A rather good batting performance by the Proteas yesterday: Tazmin Brits getting her 3rd ODI century of the year and Marizanne Kapp with a career best 121*.

Saw on their socials that the Titans played the Lions in a pre-season 50 over match today. Couldn't find a scorecard at the usual suspects, so I checked if maybe Pitchvision had it. But it seems their site is down, and has been for a while now.

No surprises in the SA squad for the world cup. Anneke Bosch returns in the place of Miané Smit, who will be the traveling reserve.

CSA will probably announce the fixtures for the coming women's season within the next week (or two, who knows). From what I've read, the only change is the introduction of finals to the 50 and 20 over competitions, bringing the total matches in the Pro division to 62.

Namibia vs SA Emerging Women: After drawing the t20 series 2-2, Namibia won the first 50 Over match by 100 runs today.

Currently I have a spreadsheet containing five of the six contracted squads for the 2025/26 SA women's domestic season. The only team missing, is the newly promoted Dragons. So I've visited their social media pages daily for the last two weeks to see if they've perhaps announced the squad.

New Proteas T20i kit: I like the fresh spin on the jersey. Not every design needs elements that lean into national identity with protea watermarks, flag colours or a vague attempt at Ndebele patterns. Sometimes a dot matrix print of a Rorschach test, is all you need.

In hindsight, I should have appreciated the Fairbreak Invitational more.

First ODI series win for the Proteas Women in 18 months. Good to see basically everyone in the team delivering a performance at some point. Might as well get used to the batting order, as it's probably going to be their approach in the future.

Great article. Comps like Super Smash and The Hundred have shown the value of double headers in terms of marketing the women's game. I think it's something CSA should definitely have a look at.

The Lions have announced their squad for the 2025/26 season. Only changes of note is Kirstie Thomson who has retired, and Sarah Barber who has left to join the newly promoted Dragons. Weird that Fay Cowling has a HP contract, and isn't part of the main squad.

The West Indies women will have less than 100 hours between the third England ODI in Taunton, and the first South Africa ODI in Barbados.

Since the start of last year the Proteas Women have played 14 ODI's, resulting in 3 wins, 10 losses and a No Result.

Of the Protea batters, Annerie Dercksen looked by far the most comfortable at the crease. Great to see her scoring runs at the international level.

Just caught up with the Proteas ODI against India. Not great seeing them lose, but at least there's a few positives. Mlaba is back to taking wickets. Overall, a decent debut by Meso. Brits looked like she was batting on a different surface. And a nice cameo by Dercksen.

My decision to support Essex (solely based on having the best looking kit) is not paying dividends so far.
