Not a common sighting walking on the trials by the river. I know Ospreys are here, but they are usually flying up high. What a surprise to see one sitting still. I guess they need to take a rest, too 🤣

One of our summer residents of the marshes is back, and that little pop of color brings a touch of vibrancy to the still-grey prairie. Male Yellow-headed Blackbird.

Heart attack 😱😱😱 A Ruby-crowned kinglet! I seldom see any, and when I see them they are too quick to stop for any pictures. This one allowed me to take some pictures, before flexing its wings for me for a last and best picture of the series. I am still recovering 😱😱😱 🪶🪶🪶

After a massive snow storm yesterday (2026-04-24!!!), this beauty visited our backyard in the morning. Such a joy to see her. Northern Flicker was the bird that got me into birding. 🪶

Western meadowlark is one of the most prolific singers on the Canadian prairies this time of the year. But you don't always see them though. This picture shows why. They hide in the grass and can be completely submerged. Once in a while they pop out to tease you though 😅 🪶

The hawks are back. We see a greater variety of them in the spring and fall as they pass through. This is a ferruginous hawk—a lifer for me. We don’t usually see them in the middle of summer, so it was great to encounter this beautiful bird. 🥰🪶
