It's amazing how much more mentally tired I am working with agents. My prefrontal cortex is sore from constant use. Turns out hand coding was the part that was a familiar pattern and provided a bit of a critical thinking break. The planning of tasks continuously is demanding.

When we have big storms at night, I walk outside at the beginning of it to watch in awe. Thinking of the native peoples of the plains who looked up in this same spot many years ago, wondering if the gods were angry with them and what it all meant. Against nature, we are nothing. Even with radar.

The best thing I have ever done for my focus is to permanently turn off Slack notifications. I find a natural breaking point from a task and then check it. If there is a true emergency, call me. That's rarely happened. Done wonders for me.

We fall to the level of our systems, and cannot rely on LLMs or humans to be perfect. Well called out here by Anthropic's member of technical staff for Claude Code. Won't be the first company to find weaknesses in their processes (looking at you, AWS, Okta, etc.), and it won't be the last.

Competition is good. It's a signal that there is demand for what you do. Don't pivot away from a place they go - try to improve or execute better on it.... ... or just be better with your customers. Sometimes, treating people well can offset expense or lack of speed.

Comms are hard for startups. Who handles bad news gracefully for their users that you've seen? At this point I need solid examples. Changing limits for free users, moving from open source to proprietary, security and data policy changes, etc... they are all pretty touchy subjects to communicate.
