I'm currently getting into the messy part of Pisces Seeks Virgo, my M/M librarian romance set on the Eastern Shore, and this protagonist, Trent, is acting like a pure Pisces. All emotion, no real thought for the future. I love his messiness!

I'm currently working on the second volume of Bound Hearts, and it's amazing how much this story of queer rebels against an exploitative, authoritarian empire comes to feel more relevant each and every day.

The way I am absolutely obsessed with Fiestaware should be studied (as should my enthusiasm for the new color release every year).

Setting and place are really important to my M/M romances, so for my Shore-set romance Pisces Seeks Virgo I of course ha to include a scene set at the Chincoteague Pony Penning. This is a highlight of the year for me, and I thought it made for a great setting for a little queer falling in love.

I had someone send me an e-mail saying they picked up Country Road Romance at First Chapter Bookstore in Parkersburg and that it brought them a lot of joy as a queer West Virginian. This is truly why I do this. It warms my heart to know they're getting into the right hands.

For me, writing love stories, especially queer Appalachian love stories, is a radical act. It's a reminder that our love, our joy, and our perseverance can and do flourish wherever we grow.

Today I have found that Trump has managed to get to me more so than usual. The man is without doubt one of the cruelest most deceitful megalomaniacs, that America has ever had to contend with. It is so wrong that he is allowed to cause the mayhem that he is.

Happy Birthday to the one and only Terry Brooks, who remains one of my very favorite fantasy authors. Everything I know about plotting a gripping fantasy tale I learned from the Shannara books. He's truly one of a kind, and the genre wouldn't be what it is today without him.

The world is a dark and grim place these days, but I continue to write my little queer love stories, all of which are rooted in Appalachia. I write without AI, and I emphasize authenticity. There's not much we can control in this world, but I'm gonna do what I can to make it better.

I'm proposing a writing with music workshop for my local library, and it's my hope that this workshop--maybe the first of many!--will show how beneficial it is for everyone, regardless of talent, to spend time immersing themselves in the act of creation.

My author copies of my queer Appalachian romantasy, A Bond of Blood and Stone, are FINALLY delivered, and I can't wait to get home from work and finally hold them in my hands!

Relatedly, the whole reason I read and watch things is because I enjoy seeing the result of other people's imaginations and, crucially, their work and their craft.

I generally try not to wade into AI discourse because I think the whole idea of generative AI is stupid, but I would just like to say that, for my part, the writing itself is a big part of the joy of creation. I love putting words on the page, putting fingers to the keys, and just...doing the thing.

Wonderful West Virginia has always been one of my favorite magazines, so I’m glad to have a subscription again. I may not live in the Mountain State anymore, but this magazine makes me feel like I’m home again. #westvirgina #appalachia #mountainstate
