some open-source work I'm doing has me joining some IRC rooms, and I'm realizing how much I missed this... no "X is typing" notifications, no reactions, no read markers, no "away" indicators, I can just be cozy and comfy and not have to be careful about every keypress I make being visible to others

does anyone else get semantically relevant full word typos when typing on a keyboard? as in, I fully intended to write "more", I felt my brain focus on the "m" to start the word, but when actually typing, it felt... off... like I pressed "m" too late... and after blinking, turns out I wrote "some"

omg i found a compiler bug that isn't a bug because it was fixed before C#14's release but *is* a bug in jetbrains' reimplementation of the compiler for analysis (they have the same bug) CallerArgumentExpression should (and does) work here, but Rider says it doesn't!

this was a really unpleasant part of Avatar 3 - like, if it was at least consistent throughout a sequence, it might have been ok, but it kept randomly flipping between low framerate for 3 seconds, high for another 5, back to low, back to high, completely unpredictably

I've been working on personal projects in modern C# a lot lately (see: my wayland compositor), and oh man does it suck to go back to my job with incredibly old C# due to Unity

I used to think X11/wayland compositors were these cool special programs with deep complexity. Shit’s just vibes, yo, there’s just a global variable called FB_ID that anyone can set and the kernel’s like “cool I’ll display that image to the monitor now”

me: I have a dream to learn how to fly one day, but it's so expensive! I just saw a video on sailplanes/gliders though and I could get into that instead, a little electric self-launch glider sounds extremely my jam, that can't be as expensive! the world, and I quote: "generally over $100,000"

it’s weird how frequently I exclaim stuff like “OOOUGH DIDN’T LIKE THAT” after doing a physical thing… but when I think back on why I said that, I can’t actually nail down a specific reason?? No pain, no discomfort, all I can describe it as is “body said NO”

rewatching the hobbit now after rewatching all of lord of the rings during recovery, and I’m surprised by how… nostalgia bait-y it is? Maybe it’s because I *just* watched LOTR but it feels like at least the first hobbit movie is all “do you remember this thing from LOTR? how about this??”

looking at indoor home co2 levels over the two weeks I was away is fascinating. why is it doing that? neighbor activity? winds bringing fresh air from outside the city, or clearing out local stagnant air? temperature changing airflow? (big spikes on either end are when I left/got back)

... ok, bahtinov mask diffraction spikes with an Hα filter (i.e. the light is a single wavelength) are really cool I wonder if there's a physical reason some of the dots are dimmer, or if it's just random imperfections
