Fangoria Friday - The October 2012 edition of Fangoria, #317, is the only issue that features a Postal Zone letter which I wrote. The letter was in defense of Bud Cooper’s film The Mutilator, which received a vicious VHS review in issue #314. I love The Mutilator!

Darkman was the first film set I visited in 1989. Scott Spiegel took me and introduced me to director Sam Raimi. I almost had a cameo in Darkman, but when that didn't happen, I was invited to Sam’s house for dinner with Scott. Many cherished memories are attached to this film. Photo from 1990.

Summer 1990 - Scott Spiegel took me to the Ackermansion to meet Forrest J. Ackerman. We are monster kids at any age. What an unbelievably exciting experience this was. If the Ackermansion's guest books remain, then Scott and I signed consecutively within one that day.

I'm devastated to learn of the passing of writer/director Scott Spiegel. I met Scott at my first convention, Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in LA, on Saturday April 8, 1989, pictured here. We became fast friends, and he was my first Hollywood mentor.

1985 was a transformative year for me. Not only did I pursue Stephen King and horror fiction, I also saw every horror film released that year. No other film had the impact or influence of The Return of the Living Dead, released 40 years ago today. At the end of the film I knew my life had changed.

The film Cujo was released on this day in 1983. This paperback of Cujo was the first Stephen King book I read in January 1985, and I’ve been a Constant Reader ever since. This is my 40th anniversary with Stephen King.

Forty years ago this summer, I was such a fan of Fright Night that I saw it theatrically twice in one day. It took 39 years until I did this again with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in 2024.

This might be the most gorgeous book I’ve ever seen. The fact that it’s for a book I wrote, and one as rdepraved as my Basket Case novelization, is especially astounding. This Brazilian edition of Basket Case from DarkSide Books for their Dark Rewind Macabre Book Video collection is a treasure.

In the ‘80s, listening to Ozzy Osbourne was a rebellious act. Ozzy and his fans were vilified by the government, teachers, and peers. It made you a target for bullying, censorship, and fire and brimstone proselytizing. It’s obvious that none of these accusers listened to his words of wisdom.
