I needed something familiar to watch so I started up Drifters. Yes, we've no shortage of Isekai series out there but few of them are as striking to me. Where many Isekai feature flashy OP attacks & spells. The fights in Drifters have a unique weight & brutality to them. Incredible Dub too.

Werewolf by Night, I'd class as like a made for TV movie. Only just recently watched it, a lot of campy fun that requires no MCU familiarity.

Put up a shelf in the finished basement to keep toys and such up off of the floor. The kiddo is getting into Star Wars lately so the well used toys I got from a yard sale in the 80's when I was a kid myself are getting at least one more generation of play out of them.

People are watching Journal with Witch right? Maybe I'm just not stumbling upon the appreciation for this show in my scrolling. While its inciting incident, the loss of family, warrants a warning for those not in a good space for it. Its exploration of loss, grief & connection is very moving.

Still quite glad that The Templin Institute is back to making videos. I may need to track down & watch Wings of Honnêamise, I think I actually haven't watched it in its entirety before.

Having re-watched it last year, It's a shame, the conditions that led to how Yu Yu Hakusho wrapped up, it had such solid arcs leading up to the final one. From sidelining Kuwabara to watering down even the manga's ending. I found myself nostalgic for the old Dubbed OP, Netflix didn't have it.

Another season, another power battle series. Dead Account has a fine concept for some supernatural fights for our young social media savvy exorcists. It might be proximity but it makes me think of Tougen Anki which I liked pretty well. Dead Account so far has felt a bit less fan service-y.

Each new episode is confirming my hunch that Journal with Witch is my favorite new series this season. The weaving of petty momentary feelings, deep lingering emotions dotted with bits of bureaucracy & everyday things. Everyone is at least a little bit of a mess, that really hits.

I dig the look that Science Saru is bringing to this new Ghost in the Shell series. One thing I'm torn about is if the voice cast will be brought over from Stand Alone Complex. New series, new cast makes sense but the voices of S.A.C. are iconic to me. Either way I'm here for it this July!

The You're Under Arrest! OVAs already looked great for their age, an HD Blu-ray? Looking forward to it. In the meantime. Y'know HiDive has all 3 seasons of the TV series that followed? Plus it brings Aoi into the mix, despite poorly aged jokes at her expense, I think she's an important addition.

This Monster Wants to Eat Me deploys its monsters sparingly. It often floats, like Hinako, in an ocean of depression & introspection. The triangle of stalemates between the true desires of Hinako, Shiori & Miko lend a sense of frustration, that compliments the girls' own with each other.

I remember the Potterhead craze, found myself as a plus one to a few Potter fan meet ups. I guess it got some number of kids to read in the 90's? Assuming their school or parents didn't think it was literal witchcraft. Now? There's better stuff out there, even derivatives & knock offs.

A look at the logical leaps, twists & other mental contortions of a conspiracy influencer, this time of the Christian variety. The Christianity on display is so inconsistently deployed & interpreted, it highlights how conspiratorial thinking warps things. Now, back to This Monster Wants to Eat Me.

Finished up GunBuster. Those old OVAs sure move at a clip don't they? I appreciate those moments where we see the vastness & speed of space as things shift from moments of established giant robot tropes & to some meditations that we see again in Anno's other work. Cheery outro though!

Hadn't realized that there was a Ghost in the Shell channel putting out interviews and slick character promo vids. So far they've got The Major, Tachikomas and Batou. I'm curious if we'll get one for Togusa?

Starting in on Gunbuster. A classic Mecha anime that will follow two good friends and fellow pilots. Right up to the point where one of them dies horribly, maybe. Don't tell me, I'll know in a few hours anyway. Those old school sparkle effects, nostalgic.

While it's nice to see a movie release for The Dangers in My Heart. It's only two short seasons. Get HiDive for a month, it's like $6 and watch the whole series. It's a sweet little school romance/slice of life. You'll likely find other good stuff to watch while you're there.

A few eps into Love Through a Prisim. Nice animation, the Dub is solid. I'm impressed that our main girl Lili arrived from Japan with a lovely English accent. I'm curious how long this show will remain light, Netflix's other Art focused series Blue Period got surprisingly heavy, still good though.

Frieren season 2 is off to a nice start. Hopefully our intrepid trio will get to those hot springs soon. Seems like the kind of destination a doting old grandpa would take his spoiled granddaughter.

If you're getting paid less than $ 150/hr with a 2hr min for dubbing from a major corporation, you are being taken advantage of. Even these rates are pitiful in the performer ecosystem, and we had to fight for them. Many of us sacrificed work. Don't let them underpay you.

I guess the alternative to using very simple or clunky looking CG in anime for things like monsters, animals or Mecha is that they simply wouldn't be made otherwise but there are times when it really breaks the look or cohesion that a series might've managed to establish regardless of budget.

Dai-Guard Mecha, Monsters & Mountains of Paperwork!

Caught the first episode of The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife. Seems like it'll be a sweet little workplace romance series. Kind of in line with The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague. Only this one has a tough big sister type who is also some kind of Bobcat or Wildcat furry? Good times.

Lots of new faces in Chained Soldier's 2nd season. Looking forward to the arrival of the Dub for this season as well. I suspect the rewards Yuuki earns himself in battle are just going to get increasingly wild, keep that "Tonight's episode: The Writer's Barely-Disguised fetish" meme ready.

Finished up The Mighty Nein. After dropping off of Vox Machina, I was pleasantly surprised that I quite liked this series. Uses the reliable trope of a pick up group coming together & getting into trouble. Animation has hit peak levels of detailed depictions of sliced & shattered bodies hasn't it?

Caught the 1st episode of Journal with Witch. I think this might wind up being my favorite new anime of the season, we'll see how it goes. I enjoy series where we see adults being kind of a mess but carrying forward just the same. Perhaps parenthood has made me weak to such narrative hooks?

Finished up Kowloon Generic Romance, I liked it pretty well. Its vibes are a mix of 80's/90's with different characters feeling like they'd fit best in one of those eras. I found myself wanting one particular mystery laid totally bare but sometimes you don't get to know what's in a character's mind.

Getting things done around the house & keeping the urge to doomscroll at bay. So it's comfort anime time. Log Horizon is still one of my favorites, really engages with the world it's set in. Stellar cast for the Dub, Jovan Jackson's Nyanta is one of the best cat person performances out there.

Caught the premier episode of Sentenced to be a Hero. Looks really promising, the creature design is disturbing, bringing Cordyceps vibes. If you happened to enjoy this 1st ep also, maybe check out Clevatess if you haven't already. Has that mix of darkness, brutality & a dash of cuteness in spots.
