thursday session : after a couple of weeks of boom bap styled mixtapes, felt the urge for a bit of change. this is a cracking slice of old school but modern(ish) reggae via toronto. released on the ever impressive echo beach label.

wednesday early evening session : a possible theme for this evenings chaos !? been a very long time since i have played this album. could be even longer before i play it again. joke. tis a lot of sputnik styled guitars-n-sequencers fun.

wednesday early evening session : todays unexpected charity shop find. bought this on cassette when originally released cos of woody on drums. enjoyable guitar pop etc. years later i listen again, and yeah, enjoyable guitar pop etc.

I was surprised to see Adrian Sherwood’s The Collapse of Everything show up on so many best-of-2025 lists. Don’t recall him doing so well before, and (though perfectly fine) it’s far from far the best album he’s made. Here’s a lead Village Voice riff I wrote 40 years ago. Today, he turns 68.

sunday session : finders keepers vs the gaslamp killer. this was my first foray into the world of finders keepers when for some reason i was sent a skinny promo cd of it. now that i have been on an 18 month deep dive re the label, will be interesting to hear this mixtape again.

sunday session : time for a mixtape. this is a much more straightforward boom bap era hip hop scratched up mixtape via the weaponize crew. very much the kind of mixtape that i need from time to time.

sunday session : the weather has been dark-n-grim all day. so horror infused instrumental hip hop seems to be the most appropriate way to kick things off.

saturday endzone session : as others have said, how dare a band decades into their groove release such an insanely great album. the production on this album is next level for a hip hop album. quite possibly the most bass heavy psychedelic album i have.

saturday session : time for a quick 30 min mixtape of chaos and fun before i head into the endzone.

saturday session : when is a mixtape not a mixtape ? when it's a full on session of turntablism excess and absolutely fantastic. this is so so good.

saturday session : when i worked in bristol i would go to a record/cd shop (reckless ?) behind the counter was ian from the aspects. this was at the time they had just signed to antidote and getting radioplay. i had high hopes for them. but of course nothing happened. this mixtape is excellent.

saturday session : this live mixtape is seriously good re the skills and track selection. however, the live crowd noise does become tiresome at times.

wednesday session : elvis forever. this soundtrack album is not your usual soundtrack album. has little connection to the film. which despite my concerns is brilliant. the 68 special section is all time for me.

wednesday session : the unreleased mixtape put together by psycho pab and the soulsavers is still one of the best genre defying mixtapes ever. such a shame it never happened. the proposed artwork was so so good. needless to say i didn't keep the artwork for future reference as i had high hopes.

wednesday session : as per you'd expect, this mixtape put together by dj moneyshot from the allergies is on the nose re party friendly hip hop/disco/library/covers/mashups etc. absolutely loving the big band/library cover of babes ruths 'the mexican' included in the mix.

Yorkshire folk! The daughter of a friend's friend is making a film about the bands that played at Minsthorpe High School in the late 80s/early 90s – the likes of the Weddoes, Cud, House of Love etc. They're trying to track down the teachers who put the bands on – Mel and Trev. Anyone know them?
