sunday session : found the sweet spot for this evenings chaos. i f&cking loved the whole rave/pop era re the shamen. yeah yeah, that track. but, they totally moved on and made an excellent album that still sounds brilliant. there was of course the brilliant ambient version as well.

sunday session : groove swerve. following an earlier mention by
@coinneachrooney.bsky.social
decided to dig this out and give it a spin. has been a long long time since i heard this. i often listen to the rave/pop era shamen, but not this album that still has guitars in amongst all the machines.

sunday evening session : kicking things off with this excellent library styled album of retakes/edits/remixes of the now-again catalogue by dj/producer 'cook classics'. would have loved a full set of these releases on cd, but insane ££ as only released in the US.

friday session : after girl talk i fancied more of the same. i.e. pop/rock/hip hop classics all mashed up. and you know what, despite the dreadful coverart on all of their commericially available releases, the cut-up boys do this stuff really well. just not as supposedly 'cool' as girl talk

thursday session : groove swerve (for a while). found this in a random charity shop bin a few years ago. had no idea what it was all about, but the cover was interesting. turns out to be a full on bloghouse era mixtape.

thursday session : time for another mixtape. (i listen to mixtapes due to laziness basically). this one is more varied, and not all about the minimal techno thing. seem to recall that james dips and dives all over the place across the 2cds. has been a long time since i heard this.

thursday session : time for a mixtape. been in the archive for a long time, but not so sure i have ever actually listened to it. in the mood for some stripped back minimal, so maybe, just maybe, this evening is the time it clicks.

wednesday session : time for a mixtape. the first cd of this 2cd set is a full on scratch-n-sniff mixtape via dj spooky. the second is a track seperated comp. these small issues matter when you need a dj helmed hour of tunes.

The Baby Namboos - "Ancoats2zambia" 1999 One and only album by this project led by Mark Porter, who is Tricky's cousin. It sounds like a cut rate version of Tricky more or less too.

wednesday session : yeah, the unknown final album. no cd edition. no release in uk/euro etc. genuinely found it 'by accident' on a very well known 'net website as a 320 download. of course i wasn't going to turn the chance down. tis more of the same, so nothing special. but no complaints from me.

wednesday session : after 2 albums of pop excess, time for a reset. sort of. as i have said before, i love mura masa and his mix of noisy electronic dance and pop. and these weapons kind of prove my point. highly recommended. oh, and 'name your price' via bandcamp.

sunday session : post virgin era compilation that has some of the brilliant code/adrian sherwood productions in 12" remixed form. top of my wishlist is a 2cd, (or possibly 3!), remastered/reissue of 'code' with all of the remixes. till then, this helps scratch the itch.

sunday session : time for a classic album. and yeah, of course it's by cabaret voltaire. the original cd version lacks the oomph, but the remastered edition kicks the woofers into touch. i have loved every bloody minute of this weekends revisit sessions.

sunday session : rhk totally revived the cv sound for the final releases. the 2 drone albums were a nice sideline but not albums i often revisit. the real chaos was on the 'shadow of funk' ep. just a shame that the ep was never available on cd.

saturday session : this album was released as a solo rhk release. however, it is very different to most of his other solo albums as it features his vocals, guitars and the trademark juddering synth chaos. it is a brilliant cabaret voltaire album in all but name.

saturday session : time for the walls of the west wing to be stress tested. the opening track of the 1st remix album that rhk released under the revived cv name was an absolute, 'wtf, rhk is so so so back' moment. and yeah, of course a tDR cover.

saturday session : i happen to love the remix albums that rhk released after he revived the cabaret voltaire name. never heard the source material, and never will. but this has the juddering synths, cut up vocals and sounds very cv-esque also, tDR coverart.

thursday session : the 3rd cd of this 3cd set was a mixtape put together by label fellow, spencer parker. it is f^cking brilliant. there was a couple of years i bought everything the label released on cd. the rekids stuff always sounded so so good on a par with kompakt. and still does.

thursday session : knew about this lot via a couple of remixes they did for bands of the bloghouse era. i seem to recall there was a lot of hope/hype about them, but it all fell apart. then i randomly came across the album in a charity shop. and yeah, its pretty good in a buzzy synth/band manner.
