Yeah, I pretty much gave up watching sport some time ago because music takes a lot of time. And I can do a lot of music in the time it takes to watch a football match. Or a small piece of music over and over again, at least. It's all progress.

These bass fills are really not that complicated, why tf can't I remember how to play them?!? Must be my age 😥

I could he watching the liverpool match, but obsessively writing basslines seems more fun and important.

... and repeat until I've got them all nailed and made all the mistakes that suggest ways to make them better. Then rehearse until it's easy and fluid. Then record several almost identical takes. Then if I can't decide, wait and eventually the decision makes itself

Bassline exercises- I need to learn, develop and choose 6 bass fills (from 8 currently, though I'm pretty much decided on 3) So I'm going to loop the section and play one different fill in all 6 spaces on each loop. Then try combining the fills in different variations.

One of the things I find most challenging is percussion. Performing it consistently enough and then mixing it appropriately. It's the kind of thing I don't notice in recorded music, but when you do hear it it's always mixed surprisingly loud. So it's hard to know how to place it.

One of my rules is that I have to play every part of the song It's ok to copy and paste when determining the arrangement, but if I'm going to stick with the new arrangement I have to rerecord the part where I've copied it. So there's always a slight variation.
