I decided to help my future self and start learning Japanese on Duolingo. I don’t actually want to learn to speak it but I would like to be able to read the basics. Joke’s on me because in addition to the characters Duolingo gives me the English phonetic spelling and that’s what I’m learning.

My only rejoinder to this as someone who finished the book less than 48 hours ago is that is true and the book was still fun. For better or worse I don’t think genre fiction needs a point of view more than delivering on a good story.
