Gonna be weird to not have Game Pass anymore.

Ugh, this is a shame. As longtime subscriber all I can really say at this point is "oof". Game Pass was a great deal at one point in time. A great deal even! But I was hoping that maybe, MAYBE they wouldn’t go down the “gouge the committed subscribers” route yet... here we are.

Hades II is rad as hell. Big fan.

The new Wolverine game looks slick but I’m very curious what type of game it is. Linear? Character action? Open world? Action/adventure?

Man Borderlands 4 is rough on base PS5. “Performance mode” never hits 60 and hovers around 40-45 fps, sometimes even lower. Why even call it that? Nothing performant about it.

Put down Silksong on Friday after getting my butt kicked by the Last Judge 20+ times. Came back today and defeated him on my first try. What a weird phenomenon that is.

Seems to be a lot of discourse online about Hollow Knight: Silksong’s difficulty. I will say that I’m finding myself more frustrated with it than the original HK too. I definitely think they should have included some accessibility options, similar to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

I’m not nearly as far, maybe 8 hours or so in, but I wouldn’t call my time with Silksong “joyful”. It still has a lot of the same coarse gameplay elements of the original game (like the dreadful map system), so I find myself equally intrigued as I am frustrated. Good? Yes! Brilliant? Nah.

Recently our internet was out due to “vandalism in the area” for over half of Wednesday and most of Thursday morning. And now our electricity is completely out with no estimated repair time. Things are just going swimmingly over here.

The Dualsense is a good controller but holy hell the battery on these things are just awful! Both my launch controllers only last for about 4 hours, often less. Pretty much have to charge them after every play session at this point.

Having played through the main campaign and most of the DLC in Borderlands 3, I can definitively say that the side quests and boss fights in this game are poop from a butt.

I decided to commit and start Super Mario Odyssey again (not just consider it) after playing through—and loving—DK Bananza. God damn… Odyssey still rules so friggin’ hard guys. What an incredible game.

Finished up the main story in Donkey Kong Bananza over the weekend and man, what a game! I've been going back to previously levels and getting any bananas, fossils, and music tracks I missed the first time, which is also fun and satisfying in its own way.

OK, so I guess the whole 'raising prices of the Switch 1 & accessories in Canada due to market conditions' thing was never going to be exclusive to just us. Those crappy little Switch 1 Joycons being $120 in Canada now is still wild to me. They weren't even worth $90!

Working from home has been so awesome, and I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m EXTREMELY lucky to be in my situation. Thankful too, of course. However, because I have to work from a remote server, if my internet goes out for any reason I’m essentially useless. Like, for example, right now! 😒

Any scenic wallpapers with mountains in the background look really nice in iOS 26.

Man, I have a lot of thoughts on Donkey Kong Bananza (positive). What an absolutely delightful game. It is soooo friggin’ nice to finally play Nintendo games on my TV again without them looking like an ugly, low-res mess.

I made this change 2 minutes into the game. 😂 Jumping with A felt so off to me. Glad they offered the option to swap them, it's not always a guarantee with Nintendo!

Over the last week or so I’ve been playing Sqeakross: Home Squeak Home or reading Play Nice by @jasonschreier.bsky.social before bed every night. Both of them rule.

Saw this coming from a mile away. I love Nintendo games (and probably always will) but I hate the company as a business. So many anti-consumer decisions lately.

Finished up Doom: The Dark Ages yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Very fun. I much preferred its pace over Doom Eternal which was a little too micromanage-y. It fixes a bunch of smaller issues with the series too, like calling out points of no return (hated missing collectibles in previous games).

Last Five GOTYs: 2020: Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2021: Metroid Dread 2022: Elden Ring 2023: Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 2024: Astro Bot So far my 2025 contenders are: Expedition 33, Mario Kart World, Doom: The Dark Ages. Potential 2025 contenders: DK Bananza, Metroid Prime 4, Ghost of Yotei.

Slowly making my way through Doom: The Dark Ages and man, I’m surprised this game is only an 85 on OpenCritic. Hell of a game (pun intended). Probably my #2 behind only Clair Obscur this year so far. Also my favourite of the modern Doom trilogy.

Played through Shovel Knight to knock off my first Backlog Beats game of 2025. Good game! I also tried the Plague of Shadows expansions and… no thanks. Did not enjoy that.

Everwild and Perfect Dark being cancelled is a shame. I was excited about both games. We desperately need a new Rare game.

The St. Louis Blues just announced a new team identity. I honestly love it! Dropping the navy blue and going with powder blue + yellow is so, so nice. Their new home uniforms are easily one of the best in the league now (other than the ugly Stifel ad).
