This International Working Women’s Day, we gathered to uplift the women and gender expansive folks who have paved the way for revolutionary struggle around the world. We are grateful to our collaborators for the hours of planning and organizing that made this day possible!

The Land Loss Prevention Project was founded in 1982 by the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers to curtail epidemic losses of Black owned land in North Carolina.  This Black History month, we uplift the rematriation efforts of Black and Indigenous Land happening around the world.

Showy Milkweed has definitely been SHOWING OUT on our Land sites! Native to the western part of Turtle Island, this gorgeous perennial is food and habitat for monarch butterflies and has also been used by Indigenous people as fiber for ropes, basketry and nets, among other things.

2Spirit Indigenous Identities have been a part of our communities since time immemorial. We give thanks to our LGBTQIA2S+ elders and all those who have paved the way. As we work to return land to Indigenous hands, we recognize that rematriation requires dismantling of homophobia and transphobia.

While Ohlone women are central to our vision and leadership, the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust is an intertribal, multicultural Indigenous women-led land trust. We work to restore reciprocal relationships with the land, and with the plants, animals and other human beings who we share this land with.

Last week, we gathered with community for a special screening of the incredible documentary, Standing Above the Clouds, directed by Jalena Keane-Lee. We are so grateful to the powerful Indigenous women who continue leading the way and dedicating their lives to the protection of sacred sites.
